Moussa Sissoko

Actually, I'm a little surprised at this. Certainly, he improved a lot last season but truthfully he started at a very low bar. Attacking wise he just couldn't get it together but he wasn't as bad as some made out.

But to be honest I am happy he is gone. The debate on his ability or lack thereof was really fudging boring. No doubt he'll live on in some Bassong like joke that isn't funny.

Looking at how Moura is playing having had half a season to see what's required maybe we'll start to make more moves in the January window?

Good shout, ideal for the player to come in and not under too much pressure to hit the ground running, just spend half a season finding the groove and then go into a proper Poch pre-season.

Only problem is, we're quite limited with who we can get in January as clubs tend not to sell their best players mid-season. We can get unwanted players, and might find the odd diamond in the rough (which Moura seems to be!)

Lot of trust in Onomah I’d say, but if Poch thinks Onomah is ready, I’m down with that. I said in the expectations for the season thread that I’d want Onomah to break through so if this helps him take a chance then okey dokey.

I'd far rather give Onomah a chance. If he turns out to be brick, then we've learned something. But with Sissoko we already know the answer.

Oh don't worry Aurier will soon take his place as board whipping boy..

Onomah was injured I believe. That might be part if it.

If Onomah is to be part of the first team squad then it looks likely it will be at cm now, which is good.

Remember though the role is essentially 5th choice CM + 6th choice AM. I know with Dembele's decline and questions about Wanyama's fitness that's maybe more of a role than it was 12 months ago. But it's not lynch-pin.

Anyway, I've definitely seen Onomah control a ball and make a successful pass, so he's already ahead of Sissy in those aspects.

Amos looks another decent option too, and Oakley-Boothe already has a senior appearance too.

Or maybe Amos. At the very least it seems to be freeing up a role for younger players to come through.

Regardless of whether you rate Sissoko or not, he will have been an expensive option to keep as reserve reserve reserve midfielder - a much more appropriate place for a young player.

I don't disagree there, and I will trust Poch's judgement on it. At the end of the day, he always trusted Sissoko when he needed to throw him in, and if he thinks the same about Onomah or Amos, then I'm all for it.

Smart move. It also sends a message to the likes of Amos, Winks, Skipp even. There is some space for you to come through.

Can't wait to see Wanyama and Winks getting back to their best. Dier needs competition and cover.

I thought Dier had a solid game last night and as usual gave his all, he's the one player in the side who always seems to care about the result and performance, anyone can have a poor run or game, but he never hides.
