Modric - No Longer A Spurs Player

Re: Ratface Revisited.

the chance to join the biggest club in fulham was impossible to ignore last year as well wasn't it

Re: Ratface Revisited.

Seemed just as eager to join Chelsea last season. Biggest club in the world? I wouldn't take too much of what he says literally.

The only reason he's courteous towards us is

a)it's expected practise for a footballer,
v)Levy's probably warned him to do it, and
b)We cheered him on at the beginning of the season, when he probably was expecting a booing.

Those are the only reasons. Not out of any sort of genuine loyalty. Sigh.

Moving to Madrid, any Spurs fan will concede, was something he couldn't pass up. And if that were all, we'd have him down as one of our classiest players and he would have left a firm fan favourite.

That dalliance with Terry and co., however....that's probably what will remain an asterisk in front of his name for the rest of his career from a Spurs perspective. Unless he demands a return to us or something after spending a couple of years in Madrid.

Re: Ratface Revisited.

Great player who we are going to miss, and who now plays for the biggest club in Europe and will be a star there.

That can't be denied. We'll miss him. A talent like him comes by once or twice in a decade, well at Spurs anyway. And I have no doubt that he'll shine wherever Mourinho plays him, as a trequartista or as a Xabi Alonso replacement.

Skill-wise, he's definitely up there with some of our best ever players.

Re: Ratface Revisited.

I don't begrudge him wanting to move to Real, and to be honest I don't really begrudge him wanting to move to Chelsea either.

But for refusing to play for our team he can go fudge himself.

Exactly. If he really gave a brick about us he wouldn't refuse to play.

And not only did he refuse to playbut he did it when there was still ages left of the transfer window, when we hadn't had a chance to even think of a replacment, when we hadn't even had the chance to sell him and when he knows full well we have to hold on for the best fee possible.

Yet when van der Vaart does the same thing, it's an act of absolute class. In truth, the only difference between the two is b).

Oddly enough, I don't have any hard feelings either. Though I have to admit that Modric has always been Dinamo scum to me. When bigger clubs come knocking for one of your player on a regular basis, you know the writing is on the wall. That's just the way it is. I don't resent Berbatov either. At the end of the day, their strikes had zero effect on the team. On the other hand, selling Berbatov on deadline day had a disastrous effect on our season.

The best you can hope for is to get a fair deal and identify a replacement as quickly as you can. From that point of view, Campbell's or Sheringham's departures were much more painful, as far as I'm concerned.

Re: Ratface Revisited.

When did he refuse to play for our team?
I suppose it will never be known whether it was down to him or the management who made the decision not to play at the beginning of last season and the beginning of this season whilst still contracted to us. However it was pretty clear that it was Modric who refused to go on the pre season tour to the USA.

Re: Ratface Revisited.

Lets be proud that he played for us, gave us some great memories and we made him a better player. He won't forget that. We were never going to keep him when RM came calling. I don't begrudge him anything as like Berbatov he gave us those moments. People would be less cynical if the club were in a better position.

Re: Ratface Revisited.

I would like to start a thank you thread(no joke) to berbatov and Modric for the memories of the last 7 seasons. We finished 5th on three occasions and 4th twice as well as the great semi and final to lift the carling cup. This thread would include praise for Martin Jol and Harry Redknapp.

Maybe, i'm getting all nostalgic and haven't moved on to our present situation.

Why include seven seasons? We went backwards with Berbatov, although that was not his fault. It was losing our key midfield influence that made the difference and he left without loads of public tantrums.

6 seasons. We lost Carrick but for the case of not thanking everyone, I've chosen these ones. Backwards as in league position with Berbatov, football style? I'm not so sure

Re: Ratface Revisited.

Does this topic really need to be called Ratface? Granted there are some hard feelings to how he want about leaving but he is still one of the greats to ever put on a Spurs shirt and he left for the biggest club in the world. Can't we move on and wish him well without insulting him any further?

Re: Ratface Revisited.

Top players coming and going has always been a feature in any club's history, wish him well, we all expected it anyway. I'll shake his hand if we ever crossed paths, even berba.

C'untball I'd shake then throw him judo style !

I too watch Madrid so will be following modders progress there.

Such a shame we never saw them both together for a season or two.

I didn't hold it against Robbie Keane when he went to Liverpool. I didn't boo him when we returned even when many did when Liverpool came to the lane. He didn't whinge to the press whilst Levy negotiated a deal.

For me, it's all about how a player conducts himself. If x player wants to go to Barca, Madrid or Man U, I won't hold against him. All I ask is that the player fully commits to the club whilst he is here until an agreement can be reached for the player to move on and that the player acts professionally. I know they have short careers, but I don't think it's too much to ask considering how phenomally well paid they are. Modric did not behave professionally.
