I've long said that his height and build versus speed makes his specific physique a unique challenge. I think it's totally legit. I met him at the training centre last season and he is massive, not just height but build; he's like a mix of prime era Dolph Lundgren meets Bond villain Jaws. I have never seen a physicality like that in person personally. I am glad they are doing the hard yards now as it might preserve his career and not see him end up like Sess

Nothing fishy, the season is fudging dead ..

VDV can be an elite defender but not if only available for 15 games a season.

Club seemingly is looking at everything here to get him not just back, but able to reduce future injuries, and if that takes rest of month or season, it's a really good investment and another example of significant change in club approach to stuff like this

usain bolt is taller than vdv
and vdv wasn't so injury prone until spurs.
and professional trainers should be able to cope with builds of all sizes and talents...

Hopefully today's PC has shown how wrong this take was, and how shonky it is to pay that much heed to unsubstantiated rumours.
I think we can all agree by now that @Gutter Boy is a peddler of myths, a man so convinced of his own brilliance he never stops to consider the truth. If a man sets foot on the moon, he is probably linked to Sheffield and has some deep hatred of Spurs/Levy/Postecoglu

I have not met Usain Bolt so cannot attest to his overall physicality. I can tell you height is only the start of it with VdV. I would suggest that Volendam and even Wolfsburg are a little different, having said that, 54 days out at Vol with a foot injury and a few weeks with knee injury too.

I don't disagree that the medical staff should be dealing with him/his unique physical traits, and it is clear the club agree with you as they are basically turning it all around to make sure this sort of thing doesn't happen in the same way again.

The Premier League is unforgiving, as is the amount of football elite players are playing. Arteta will tell you (let's face it, no-one believes Ange or listens to him) ;-)

Said it before, but physically he reminds me a bit of Bale. That combination of acceleration, top speed, strength and height.

Not controversial to say that a player like that will often be more vulnerable to some muscle injuries.

Good to see the club take steps to mitigate that, hopefully that's successful.

Didn't notice it but I'd say they had the sub planned and are controlling his minutes. Was most likely a reminder to Ange that we were hitting the agreed upon time for him to come off.
Sub was bang on 60 mins
And he isn’t going to the internationals
My only nervousness is how do they fix this longer term

That was my thought as well, but wondered if him rubbing his hammy had been noticed and hopping it wasn't a twinge.

Anyone else notice someone stepping off the bench and whispering in Ange's ear "Mikey" just before we took him off?
Yeah, You could see the assistant saying -'Mikey' to Ange and pointing. Then 5 secs later they tried to sub him but the ref played on before they could do it. Ange looked a bit annoyed but the ball went out again straight away so we were able to make the sub. I was worried at the time he was pointing at VDV to say he was injured but yeah it looked like it was planned

Great to see cheatmode back, hopefully can get back to full fitness and help us end that 4 decade wait for another UEFA Cup.

Lol at cheat mode. It really does seem like that though, often he’s like a top rated defender on FIFA where the ball just moves to him like a magnet.

Was immense last night.

Hopefully he can stay fit, great that we seem to be giving consideration to his overall physicality and which areas to strengthen.
