Mauricio Pochettino - Sacked

It would not surprise me if there is a change, several of the players have talent but they have not shown it in some of our crunch games.
Yup, these past 2 performances have been almost as woeful as the defeats at the end of the 15/16 season, after which our first summer signing was Wanyama; a pity that he’s been injured for most of this season, as we really could’ve done with his muscle these past 2 encounters.

Got my fingers crossed that Levy already has a deal in place for his successor as midfield enforcer; whilst Sissoko has done well this season he’s not hit the heights that Big Vic did (alongside Dembele) 2 seasons ago.

How would you replace his assists/goals/corner taking....

I think if he does follow the manager to Madrid (lol) we should have a cash/player deal as someone like Isco would help.

Despite his loss of form (I think his heads been turned) I still think he’s a storm trooper mutiny pal when everyone is on form.

I guess one way to go is to follow Liverpool and become harder to beat and rely on the front 3 to pull something out the bag

Wouldn’t be too hard to replace his corner taking; I’m happy to step in on £20,000 a week and hit the first man on 90% of occasions.

He clearly is, or are we doing the same thing as we did when walker left - pretend he’s rubbish and it doesn’t matter if he goes.

How has that worked out for both parties?
He has some talent, I won't deny that. However he simply doesn't do enough in my humble opinion and we won't make that final step to Trophy winners with him mincing about, not tackling and being pretty useless at free kicks and corners. I honestly hope that he proves me completely and totally wrong. If he turns his career around and becomes the player he should be then believe me I'll be cheering him to the rafters. In the meantime it's like watching Julian Clary in a Spurs kit.

You know he does most running in most games?

His corners and set plays are abysmal but I wonder how much of that is down to instruction as all the team do it and he certainly doesn’t for Denmark.

Yes he does a lot of running. Some of his passing is superb. He tends to have success when he has a lot of time to pick a shot or a pass. I remember him scoring a great goal against Gillingham in the cup but he had absolutely no one near him. Watch him closely during a game and you will see that not only does he not tackle but on occasion he activley avoids any situation where he might get hurt. As I said earlier he has elements of his game that are brilliant but he's nowhere near the standard of Dele for example.

Mauricio Pochettino has described the reaction to the end of Tottenham's fleeting title challenge as "weird" and says the club's critics are "living in a different reality".
The Spurs manager has admitted it will be impossible to win the league title after consecutive defeats to Burnley and Chelsea left them nine points adrift of Liverpool, and looking nervously over their shoulders at the chasing pack, but he believes they deserve credit for their position in the table.

Arsenal can close the gap to their north London rivals to a single point with a win at Wembley on Saturday and Pochettino claimed every Spurs would have signed up for that situation at the start of the season.

"The feeling is a little bit weird," he said. "Everyone before the start of the season [would] sign up to be in the position that we’re in today and you’re asking me, ‘It’s only four points to Arsenal, or Manchester United and Chelsea are below us’.

"I think we’re living in different realities because, with all the circumstances, Tottenham deserve big praise to be in the position that we’re in at this moment of the season.

"Of course we’re disappointed in the last two results but we need to keep going and trust in our team. It’s going to be tough on Saturday but we believe we can deliver a good job.

"[Winning the title] was difficult after the Burnley defeat and after Chelsea it’s nearly impossible. Of course we want to dream in football. While mathematically it can be possible of course you can dream but to be honest it’s not a possibility."

On Thursday, Pochettino formally accepted an FA charge of improper conduct for furiously confronting referee Mike Dean following the 2-1 defeat at Burnley last Saturday.

He is likely to escape punishment before the Arsenal game but he could be banned from the touchline on his return to Southampton on Saturday week – a punishment he believes would be unfair.

"I accepted [the charge] yes, I signed my name," Pochettino said. "But a ban, why? I don't believe that it's going to happen. I don't think that's going to be fair.

"For what? It was a conversation, no? Maybe it was close but it was a conversation. I don't believe it's fair. But I'm going to accept if they ban me and I can't be in the dugout against Southampton. I am going to accept. It's different if it's fair or not. I don't believe it is but I'm going to trust the FA and accept what they say."

Harry Kane, meanwhile, escaped retrospective action from the FA for leaning his head into Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta in Tottenham's 2-0 reverse at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

The incident was seen by the match officials, who decided against taking action, and Pochettino described Kane's behaviour as "fantastic".

"He was very professional in the action. I wasn’t worried because I knew what happened was going to happen.

"He is a player that cares about the club, the team and the result and it is normal to behave like this. The reaction is fantastic from my point of view because it is a player that cares about what has happened. It should be strange or different if he didn’t show that character or show the message that he cares about the result, he cares about the situation, he cares about the club. That is the most important thing in my point of view."

Kane's return from a seven-match absence with ankle ligament damage has been met with two defeats but Pochettino laughed off suggestions the England captain had disrupted the balance of his team.

"It makes me laugh, it is unbelievable, but that is the era we are living in," he said. "Harry is one of the best strikers, players in the world. For different circumstances we didn't win but Harry is one of the best players, not only here in Tottenham, in England, in Europe and the world and that is no doubt and there is no debate."

Meanwhile, Pochettino has revealed he was "so close" to signing Heung-min Son for Southampton back in 2013 but says the South Korea chose to move to Bayer Leverkusen from Hamburg on the advice of his family
I can’t understand why he has to defend his record to anyone.

Don’t want him to leave by any stretch, but compared to most top class midfielders (and we like to think he is in that bracket) he doesn’t really dominate many games. He mostly does a couple of things that are a touch of class rather than really impact a game for 90 minutes - I’ve rarely see him do that.

There’s certainly a case that selling him and getting in quality recruits in positions that a Poch identifies will enhance our team, in the same way liverpool selling Coutinho who was one of their main match winners and getting in quality players in their weaker positions has helped them....

Mauricio Pochettino says Tottenham may need to find another "magic guy" to help them win trophies if they are not going to change how they operate .

Few bits in this mornings rags . There’s more to it but his comments lately are a bit worrying. Anyone thinking he may be fed up ? looking for a way out ? Seems to be distancing himself a little.

If you read the quotes it’s absolutely nothing to worry about. He’s just saying if Levy says next season that you must win the title or CL then he’ll say maybe you need to find another magic man, because the way the club operates won’t change.

Think this is al pretty obvious stuff and a scenario that will never happen anyway, I don’t for a second think that Levys putting this pressure on him to deliver a title or CL. The comment is clearly having a dig at the press for their expectations and reporting of “spurs blow the title race” and “it’s happened again” all this week.

Can’t believe some of the things I’m reading about Eriksen. The lad is one of our best players and is just in a poor run of form. He’s had these spells before and come out the other side.

We don’t have another player like him and he’s key to how we play. It’s no coincidence that we’ve been fairly mediocre since Christmas and so has Eriksen. If I was Poch or Levy, I’d be putting a bumper contract under his nose.

There’s very little loyalty in football. That’s as true of fans as it is of anyone else.

Well said.
Eriksen hasn’t been anywhere near his best. But not always as bad as made out sometimes. He does have a very high bar in terms of the expectations he has to live up to. Very few players have had stellar games with one or two exceptions and the collective has generally been lacking. Hence we look to a player like Eriksen to drag everyone else up.
But his magic only works if others are in form too. An incisive pass is only as good as the player running into space. I think he is also playing with less positional freedom than usual (by instruction?) due in part to the paucity of our midfield options.
There also a bit of a myth that he doesn’t tackle or challenge. He does, although granted not with the same fervour as others. Ghod didn’t either.

I think we do need to prepare ourselves for him leaving, although I really hope it doesn’t happen this summer.

His form will pick up (today please!) and then we’ll all be purring about him once again. Form is temporary etc etc.

Think its more of a defence mechanism than anything else tbh. Same way Walker went from being the best rb in the league to worse than Trippier in the space of a few weeks for many of our fans, Toby went from organiser of defence and best cb in the league to not even being good enough for the bench sometimes because of his 'performances' etc etc. Its a pretty natural reaction and not at all unique to Spurs fans (when Raheem Sterling was being sold, all the Liverpool fans were babbling on about how Ibe was ready to step up). If Dele or Kane ever decide to leave/ run down their contracts, I'm sure Roles and Parrott will be better than them too and Kane will be too injury prone and slow and Dele not enough of an influencer over 90 minutes.

What is the relevance to loyalty? You can be critical of a player and still support them when they pull on the shirt no?

Truly top class players, especially those in midfield tend to drag their team through games when the team is playing poorly. Eriksen too often goes missing - you say it yourself, Eriksen has been mediocre since we as a team have been. So basically he only looks great when the team are playing well? Very sexy. Don’t think anyone is suggesting we get rid of Eriksen but the longer he doesn’t sign a deal the more likely it looks that he is off. He is a talented player no one doubts that, but it won’t be the end of the world if he does go and I’ve no doubt we’ve planned for this scenario well in advance.....

It’s Pochs birthday today?! We need to win this for him. Can’t bear the thought of him having a rubbish birthday.....

Yep. And Toby’s as well it would seem.
A Toby headed goal from an Eriksen corner in a win with a great team performance so Poch will be Very Very Happy with The Performance.

He’s been here for 5-6 years and played with a poor team inistally and stayed for some of the best years of his career. People are now advocating selling him. That’s the reference to loyalty. No issue with criticism. I’ve been very critical of him myself recently.

I think it’s more a case that the team don’t play well if Eriksen doesn’t play well rather than the other way around. The other night, Harry didn’t get a sniff. That wasn’t anything Harry did wrong, he did relatively well I thought, it was because the three behind him did nothing and Eriksen was particularly disappointing.
