Mauricio Pochettino - Sacked

He has confirmed there is no Real Madrid clause, verbal or otherwise, in his contract and that he is 'happy' with and 'committed' to the club - if you need more than that then id suggest you'd never likely be satisfied with whatever he says and will always take the pessimistic view

We are all guessing.
Hope for the best!
Prepare for the worse.

I’ll be shocked if he goes to be honest. I was doubtful anyway but the quotes this morning are as emphatic as you can realistically get.

While I did say earlier that even Poch won’t be as wholesome as some of us believe, it would take an almighty contradiction to go there now in my view.

Then again, maybe Levy fancies the £40m-£60m he could get for Poch and will “sell” him...

He will go eventually, but he has clearly shown that he has the respect for our club and the contract he's just signed. It would send a really bad message if he is trying to get players to commit and he just leaves after one flutter of eye lids. I think it's safe to say that within the next two years, we will lose Poch.

Not having a Real Madrid clause in his contract doesnt exactly hold any particular significance really does it? Whether he had a clause or not, Levy would be getting plenty of compo. Happy and committed to the club is great, but lets be fair they are just standard comments from a respectful manager who hasnt been offered anything as of yet. Quotes like when Real call you listen arent exactly reassuring and this is coming from someone who doesnt think he will go, but I can understand why fans are concerned thats for sure....

I missed a comment along those lines. What did he say?

Daily Fail quotes.

'When Madrid call you, you have to listen,' he told El Confidencial. 'Although in this case it doesn't depend on me. I have just signed a long contract at Tottenham and I'm very happy there.'
'I'm taking all the speculation in my stride I am part of an exciting project I am content I am happy that the people in Tottenham are happy with me,' he added. 'The most important thing is to enjoy the moment.
'It's not up to me. My commitment is maximum. Let things flow. We are enjoying the moment and what has to happen will happen.
'I am very happy at Tottenham because they let me work and we are growing all together. Now I want to focus on planning the next season, and keep a distance from everything that is being talked about.'

... but of course it's just sensationalist journalism. 5% of what he said might possibly, if you're a half eyed donkey, suggest he might generally say you should listen to Real Madrid, and the remaining 95% suggests pretty clearly he's committed to Tottenham and preparing for next season. :p

It's quite significant when there was a lot of talk that there was one, on messageboards and in the media imo

Ive got no concerns about the situation, he signed a new long term deal when there was lots of talk that Real were interested and they were going to be replacing their manager this summer - all potential worries ended there afaic. You then had the release clause stories that got people worried, they've now been proven to be false and the manager has reiterated his commitment to the club.

Thanks. The Guardian have the quote as:

Spanish newspaper El Confidencial: “When Real Madrid call you, you have to listen to them. Although in this case it doesn’t depend on me. I have just signed a long contract with Tottenham and I am very happy here.

“I am happy at Tottenham because they let me work and we are growing together. Right now I want to focus on planning for next season and keep out of all the things that are being said. There will be lots of rumours, lots of things said, but I have no news from Real Madrid.

“I’m working very comfortably at Tottenham and it’s my obligation to focus on that. I do not want, nor can I, comment on Zidane going but what he has done is undoubtedly very big: no one has won three Champions Leagues in a row recently.”

He's been as clear as Poch ever is. The people having a meltdown now are the same ones doing the same at the end of last season. There is nothing that he could say that would reassure them.

Exactly this, he's just signed a new 5yr contract and unless Levy wants him gone he'll be around for the next 2-3 years at least. The media is trying to drive this narrative just ignore them.

Yes, but its not significant on whether he would leave or not - merely shows that specific rumour was nonsense. I agree there are no worries, unless Real Madrid do come in full tilt and then things will be interesting. Its very easy saying youre not interested in something thats not on offer, but when it becomes reality? Different matter. Im sure most blokes on here would say they wouldnt go near Katie Price, but if she was standing right there in front of you on offer? Hmmm:p....

This might again be me thinking with Poch-tinted glasses on, but the guy has spent the past couple of seasons talking so much about "the project" and "what we're building here". He's been quick to ship out those who aren't on board with it, even if they're considered one of the better players, and has spoke at length about the value of respect within football.

And so to turn his back on all that at the first realistic sniff of the Madrid job, would go against all that he seems to value. Not to mention make him look very fickle to the players to whom he's tried hard to embed his beliefs upon.

I'm not saying he wouldn't go, just that I genuinely believe his morales and principles are of high importance to him as a man. And it's those morales that may just see him turn any Madrid opportunity down.

... if you're in the tabloid business, that is. I imagine The Guardian, for instance, would write a more balanced headline. Aaaand, they did: "Mauricio Pochettino ‘happy’ at Spurs but keeps Real Madrid door open".
