Mauricio Pochettino - Sacked

He's inherited a very so so squad full of pretty good but not great footballers - Chadli, Lamela, Paulinho, Eriksen... they all have their moments but can't seem to affect games on a regular basis, and we're woefully short of options up front. The spunking away of the Bale money has set us back a couple of seasons I think. A top six finish this year would be excellent, then push on next season when he's brought in more of his type of player and his footballing philosophy has been implemented.

I think the idea is that he can get them playing in a way that isn't dependent on one or two individuals. IMO our squad is better than the one that got Southampton 8th last season.

whats wrong with what hes said? hes basically saying the players were absolutely **** poor and there is no excuse, hardly any played mid week and theres no reason as to why they couldn't create but in a nicer way..

What is a Premiership team (with a big squad of players) doing going onto the pitch "in wrong condition to play" and "uncomfortable on the pitch. The players seemed uncomfortable." It is a home game, they are professional footballer -how did the coaching staff and players manage to be in a position where they were uncomfortable on the pitch. One or two players maybe, not a whole team. That sounds unprofessional, and a poor excuse....But it may just be a poor grasp of English maybe he meant something else.

he doesnt control the players. he manages them. if they dont do what he wants thats not his fault, he can drag them off, he can drop them and hopefully a few get dropped for arsenal. but no way am i blaming Poch for the loss. he has a plan, a style, a philosophy and he's inherited a squad of players unsuited to it, which makes it even more of a shame that he couldnt get what he wanted

For me, it's important he reacts strongly. I think he will. I expect us to go 4-4-1-1 next weekend. And I'd like to (generally) see how this line-up would do

Lloris

Dier
Vertonghen
Fazio
Rose

Lennon
Stambouli
Bentaleb
Eriksen

Lamela

Ade

subs: Vorm, Soldado, Chadli, Kane, Naughton, Kaboul, Dembele

for me, it HASto be:

Lloris
Dier - Fazio - Vertonghen - Rose
Capoue - Stambouli
Lennon - Lamela - Eriksen
Soldado

--

But i'll most likely be:

Lloris
Dier - Kaboul - Vertonghen - Rose
Capoue - Dembele
Lamela - Eriksen - Chadli
Adebayor

I am not sure exactly how he wants to play, but I expect he does have squad of players he wouldn't have selected himself. However, he doesn't just manage the squad, he is responsible for their coaching. Today the movement in the final third from the attacking players, Lamela excepted, was absolutely dreadful. That is partly a coaching issue. Equally, Poch has to set up and play a system that fits the players he does have, and with the right players in the right positions, -otherwise he ends up like AVB. So I think the manger has to take some responsibility.

And if he thinks were were poor -he should just say we were poor today - there's no need to get into comfort/or lack of it. But, as I said before, that may just be an understanding and use of English thing. (I hope so)

Spot on; never understood how coaches fail to see things that even a dunce like me spots on TV

Maybe they get too involved in the training that they miss the glaring issues during the actual match...

Pochettino: "We’re in good condition to play and to have a good performance. Sometimes we are in wrong condition to play and make more mistakes. My feeling, we are uncomfortable on the pitch. The players seemed uncomfortable."

?

Seems to me like he's saying that sometimes, for whatever reason, teams aren't in the right condition to play. But that this wasn't the case today. He said we looked uncomfortable on the pitch, I think that's right.

Hopefully today Poch has learned some things about what is wrong at the club. This is not a new problem.

The subs he did today were that of a man who had no plan and was simply 'hoping' it would work. Basically going 2 up top...and wtf is the point with paulinho? what is he going to do exactly? he can't get into a game when he starts yet Poch thinks there's a chance he can do something as a second half sub?

His choice to start Kaboul and chiriches is something i don't even think the two previous idiots in charge would do. I know Poch is a fan of rotation but Kaboul and Chiriches as a partnership in the league? really? i mean really?

Subs looked fine, although Bentaleb should have come on early in the second half for me.

Get more players forward, get creativity with Eriksen into the rather dull centre that was Dembele and Capoue. I know you don't rate Paulinho, but obviously Poch thinks at least slightly higher of him than you do.

But thats why he's disappointed. He's somewhat coached a lot of the dross we have, some of which looked great against QPR and even Sunderland just last week, but were distinctively average today. He's not sure why, and neither are we. No movement today, he said we looked uncomfortable and we did. Why? - they played last week together. We were at home, we should be looking to control. I think the lack of leaders is a good answer,as simple as it might be.

We had our three "captains" on the pitch and none of them lead.

The line up has solidarity at the back in Fazio who will be a beast at set pieces, the calmness of Vert which we'll need if we continue playing out from the back. Steel in midfield with Capoue and Benji, one to recycle possession and the other to pass forward quickly, like a more experienced Bentaleb.

Then the addition of Lennon who has something we've lacked in the final third which is pace, he also brings his defensive side of things to help out Dier as well as his work rate. Lamela gets to play off Soldado which is something we all want to see and Eriksen back in his best position for us on the lef.

To many of our players are uncomfortable when the opponent is in our faces . The body language is all wrong . Instead of rolling up the sleeves and putting in a few crunching tackles of our own so as to let the opponent know that this is WHL , we're Tottenham Hotspur players, our players simply fade away from the game .

Chadli and Eriksen look like little boys remembering the good old days, when they were with the big teams in the Eredivisie.

Adybayor is an opportunist , saving his best efforts when it suits him and to be perfectly honest , he's not that good . Not one dip of the shoulder and a shot on goal , how many times ?

Rose when tested defensively often reacts in a hot headed manner.

Our two central defenders today were clearly intimidated by West Brom's front two, Berahino and Sessegnon.

The Baggies didn't make us feel uncomfortable with their scintillating play , they made us feel uncomfortable by not showing us the respect some of our players feel they should be showed. They expect every opponent to be pussies like QPR of a few weeks back.

The players looked uncomfortable because Kaboul and Chirches were selected at the back.

This makes the crowd grumble and groan before kickoff, waiting for things to go wrong. As soon as they try something silly or make a short backpass or pass to someone under pressure or try to shepherd a ball out and lose the ball, the crowd murmur and the fear and discontent grows.

This is what makes everyone at the Lane uncomfortable, the stupid selection of two calamitous players at centre back.

Agree with this line up apart from swapping bentaleb with dembele as IMO, we need his strength in the middle of the park. Bentaleb will be overrun in this kind of game. I would have Capoue no where near the team against Arsenal. I think a dembele/stambouli partnership gives us the best chance to recreate the very effective Sandro/ dembele partnership. I have a lot of faith in Poch, we are going to need patience as there is a lot of rubbish that needs clearing out and he needs time to imprint his system. Things could be rocky for a while.

I just posted a similar thing in another thread and I think it's a big issue. Liverpool pressed us hard at times and we didn't handle it well. West Ham got on top os us and we struggled badly against them in the 1st half of that game (probably would have been out of it had they scored the penalty). We did well v QPR and Sunderland, two teams who gave our players time to play.

Most managers are going to realise our weakness quite quickly. Poch's hands are tied, we have blown a lot of money on very average players with big reputations (Paulinho anyone?). We need to stick with him, and let him weed out the players ho can't handle playing his way over a period of time. Unfortunately, Baldini has done such a bad job with the Bale money that it's probably gonna take awhile to sort out.

This place is absolutely unbearable after a loss, utter nonsense is spoken.

Apparently the whole team plays rubbish because they didn't like that Kaboul - their new captain - and Chiriches were selected at the back?

The team played at a poor, slow tempo and clearly didn't deserve to win. But people are acting like they are League 2 standard players. They are good players and at the very least should be able to beat West Brom.

Posters are so determined to build their own narratives into what actually happened that they are coming out with some frankly ridiculous assertions. The team today that was picked should have been able to beat West Brom.

I really cannot see us going 4-4-1-1 next weekend and I do not think that the formation was the problem today. I think that too many players just had an off day.

So please enlighten us, and explain away that pathetic excuse for a performance today.
