Squad is very good and like Poch's direction, but I'd kill for a VDV in that team ...
I think son will be the vdv type player, his highs will be just as high but the lows/faults won't be so low.
VdV was hard working too, just his fitness that was a problem
What was it VdV gave us that Eriksen doesn't offer?
If given a choice between the two I would rather have Eriksen.
Personality
Erisken says little and format get over exuberant on or off the pitch. He lacks glamour but is a better player IMO

Agree with this. Van der Vaart was an excellent player for us, but his exuberance and passion contributed as much to his popularity as the goals and assists did.
Eriksen is a quieter player but scores key goals, is the best free kick taker since Bale and at present, is our best attacking midfielder. Plus, his stamina is greater and so he gets more minutes and miles in for us than VDV did.
Very interesting point that you raise there! VdV was one of my real favourite players because of the passion that he showed and the fact that he always seemed to score when we needed a goal. I always used to joke that he would come off after 60 minutes!
Would I kill for a VdV type player in our team. Bloody hell yes, but that is because I have a soft spot for those types of players. Flawed Geniuses. That player that could play for any club in the world were it not for the fact that they had one fatal flaw, no matter what that may be. VdV was one of those, Ginola another.
Maybe, just maybe that's not the right road to take just yet and that's where we were going wrong, so I'm inclined to agree with @SpursNorway 's way of thinking. But GHod would I love to see a VdV or Ginola type at our club. Someone where when they get the ball, you just know he could do something amazing.

Winning mentality. vdV had that in oodles, whereas Eriksen still goes missing in the big games (and lots of others too).
Rafa was on a completely different stratosphere as a player.
VdV was a bigger name who brought excitement to the club and was much more talismatic (is that even a word?) on the pitch - in terms of ability and quantifiable contributions though it's probably close between the two
Not sure that a lot of 'big' clubs would suit Poch's way of working. I think plenty of chairmen would be interested in employing him, but you'd have to think he might be tempted to see it through; particularly with the new stadium on the horizon and the amount of work and effort he has invested into the squad. I understand that people will point to him jumping ship at Soton, but we are a far more competitive club than them with a load more potential. If we do really well this season, wonder if any big clubs will come in for Pochettino. Looking at Argentina's current problems, won't be surprised if Pochettino is linked with becoming the next Argentina manager.
