Mathys Tel

There are senior players in front of him. A lot of player breakthroughs are from taking opprtunities of injuries to the players in front. Bale, lennon...
Managers are judged game by game. They want someone they know in a role rather than try to bring players through. Conte said it.

Absolutely.

So blow them away in training, be obviously better.

If he’s good enough, he’ll make it.

I think the price is putting people off. Rightly so given his age and experience.
We can't afford expensive duds...we've done that got the t-shirt.

And that makes it a coin toss. I think as someone else suggested...if we can have him for another season (which I 100% think he'd be up for it we won the EL) that would lead to a more definite/confident answer.

Is very comparable (age and Rennes) to Doue ...he was 50m euros, but definitely looks a player.

On a side note....that Rennes conveyor belt is something else .
Its been me who is campaigning for another loan season just to see what he's really about and you make an excellent point re Doue and how much he cost.

Tel just looks very, very expensive to me based on what we've seen so far. I've seen more developed players move in recent times for comparable or even lower fees. Again it feels like we'd be playing a finished player price for someone who needs a far bit of development and whom whose final level is really up for debate imo.
We know they can were solanke, richarlison, johnson, madders and werner.
I think you meant "know they can't"

He needs a run of games and is progressing well.

Let's wait until the end of the season, but with Son coming towards then end of his career with us and Werner heading out, we have Moore, Odobert, Tel, Johnson, Kulu and at a push Richarlison who can play out wide.

I can't see us not taking him whomever is manager.

Very good addition.

That's pretty much how I see it. Albeit he's not really had a fair amount of time to make conclusions on him.

In regards to Doue...we have to also remember PSG are a different financial animal to us. They can swallow the financial hits

I remember berba, son, modric getting slated the first few months after they joined us.

No idea if tel will work out. But not going to base anything on spurs fans initial reactions. Especially for a 19 year old.
Its not about him being slated. Tel relatively speaking will cost more than all of those guys and each were more established than Tel is currently. At least for me that's the concern, he's rather pricey for wheres he at right now.

I thought that the transfer fee was fifty million?

Didn't we pay forty two for Johnson?

If we want quality and strength in depth then fifty million for a nineteen year old, two goals in seven games (not all starts) who has been played on the left, right and centrally is good value.

I don't know what quality players we would get for less?

The problem is all of them bar Johnson prefer LW.

Of course they do, I would most certainly pay the extra for Mbeumo as an example, its a case of ambition
No player is a guarantee. There are plenty of examples of "guarantees" flopping. And those who are close to a guarantee are not going to come to Spurs.

Mbuemo is only gettable if we win the EL I think.

I know that as much as anyone, have said it numerous times on here, but there comes a time you need to upgrade on what you see with your eyes and also experience.

Otherwise you would never sign anyone ever

Which is your initial reaction. As we don't have much to judge him on.

We desperately need someone on the right and CM.

We should be able to do both IMO
I'm guessing we sign that American playing in Spain for central midfield, though I would love Wharton. For us to sign Wharton I think we would need to be creative. You know like 30m plus Johnson and Bissouma, neither of whom I value much.

If we could somehow sneak champs league it would be huge because we might be able to get Cuhna from Wolves.

Yeah that's why I'm all for going for another loan maybe even with more stringent conditions. Id even consider having a higher buy in fee if necessary. I'm not anti going for him just that so far he feels rather expensive for what he is at the mo.

One positive from last night was that Tel continues to look a lot better than when he first joined. So much quicker, and seems to have some real trickery, desire to run at people, and potentially decent end product. Might be worth spending the extra £43m after all, if he continues on this trajectory.

I thought he looked very good
Missed the end product but ran at his man and seemed to be in the right places

I like him, but he needs to find end product. That’s the problem with too many of our forwards. Odobert is the same and having them both play last night it became painful as both worked hard, both ran well with the ball and then nothing.
