Mathys Tel

It's a balance (think you know)

- Bergvall, Vuskovich are probably the ideal type of speculative youth buy
- But you have to push out sometimes, Tel may not seem that far along, but he has played two and a half seasons for Bayern, 60 appearances with 12 goals for a 19 year old wide forward, plus 16 CL appearances. He's a lot closer to certainty than you are giving him credit for.

For comparison, Lamine Yamal who I would say anyone would likely rate as a $100M player
- Is 19 years old
- In his 3rd season for Barca
- Has 66 league appearances with 11 goals and 21 CL appearances

Tel was rusty coming in, adapting to the PL in a struggling side but the data says this is a smart gamble.

Where we would fudge up is if we paid him wages that made it impossible to offload if in the long run it doesn't work out.
All good points but Yamal is 17 and honestly if you've watched him much he's absolutely the real confirmed deal. Forget 100m he's 200m+ if Barca were ever to sell. Its not just stats alone, it's game performances he's the anti Johnson if you will.

Not good enough for £60mill - or whatever the agreed fee in this region is. Lacks positional and finishing skills which he should really have. If he is as good as people think he should be doing a lot more in games. Money could be better spent.

Just to point out (re Tel) the appearances don't equate to that many minutes tbf 1600 minutes in the Bunderliga and 400mins in the CL for Bayern in 2.5 seasons.

And Bayern went big on him with very littles game time with Rennes ... literally just 50 mins in Ligue 1.

Just info...no opinion

I'm down for these kind of speculative purchases but I do feel you can do them at better prices than what has been reported.

Yeah I get that I was taking into account the loan fee. I'm not totally against it, it's just that it goes a little against the model I would suggest which is signing young and undervalued whereas he's closer to a peak valuation but is far from a peak player if you get what I mean.

As I say in my mind another loan with even tighter conditions would make a lot of sense for me. Even with a higher fee potentially but with more certainty of Tel as a player, but those are just my thoughts.

Tbh i don't know if he'd be a good buy or not. Basically is he the best value for £45m or is there someone out there better that we could get for similar price and wages (or less). I don't know.

Very similar to Ode-B....not sure 60m for same same is what is needed.

Played well in week. But still
They're completely different players.

Tel is much more similar to Son, cut inside and shoot. His main asset seems to be his shooting power/accuracy although the latter was obviously off on Thu. And obviously fancies himself through the middle.

Odobert is much more of a typical "dribbly winger".

Maybe but Tel keeps trying to dribble and gets dispossessed. I think considering what we have, we need better than what Tel has shown thus far

I think the price is putting people off. Rightly so given his age and experience.
We can't afford expensive duds...we've done that got the t-shirt.

And that makes it a coin toss. I think as someone else suggested...if we can have him for another season (which I 100% think he'd be up for it we won the EL) that would lead to a more definite/confident answer.

Is very comparable (age and Rennes) to Doue ...he was 50m euros, but definitely looks a player.

On a side note....that Rennes conveyor belt is something else .

He is currently stopping Mikey Moore from breaking through properly. He has not shown me anything to suggest he should be getting the minutes over Moore.

There is nothing stopping Moore breaking through, it’s up to him to force his selection.

There are senior players in front of him. A lot of player breakthroughs are from taking opprtunities of injuries to the players in front. Bale, lennon...
Managers are judged game by game. They want someone they know in a role rather than try to bring players through. Conte said it.
