I have seen some of the players you want in and they are bang average. Goretzka is a winner, experienced and is still getting game time at one of the best teams in the world.

That's what I can't get my head round in modern football, there are so many suits doing jobs a club manager use to do.
If the "Technical Director" is responsible for identifying signings and developing players he must also play a part in selecting a style or tactic of play along with recruiting a manager who fits that template.
We clearly do not have a plan other than we want to win more games.
Our selection of managers since Pochettino left has been farcical, we have jumped from one extreme to an other and as a result end up with a squad that suit nobody.
I don't pretend to know who should be our manager or what players we should sign, I have an idea who I wouldn't like to see at the club but am probably wrong in some or most cases.
None of us know who we are trying to sign and how difficult it can be for some many reasons, only one thing is certain any signing is a gamble with no guarantee of sucess.

Yeah, agree with most of that. I think the shade of grey is always whether a player suits a manager or not. I'm pretty certain I've watched Romero excel in all 3 manager systems, Conte to Ange to Frank. One was a back 3, the other was a defence on the half way line and the newest is the more orthodox back 4 setup but with a heavy emphasis on our captain to use his ball skills. I would say this is the system that suits him the most especially as the midfields and forwards strengthen over time directly in front of him.

I think the way to look at this is to reverse engineer it to say Poch coming back in the summer. I'm pretty certain he'd be quite excited by this squad and confident he could get most playing Poch football. You'd only be talking a small minority that may not have a stylistic fit. It always comes back to one thing for me though. That is the quality over quantity argument. It also plays into the logic that if the club or technical director is was fitting a manager based on club philosophy then it could become even easier for manager transitions. That's the head scratcher when you look at every recent manager except Poch and Ange.
