Kyle Walker

taking downing out at anfield would have been a big risk, bearing in mind the things they were getting away with i have no doubt Lloris would have been off

then just put your foot through it!

Lloris does strike me as someone who has skill and he wanted to come away with the ball as opposed to whacking it clear. He did the same in the Europa League and was tackled remember.

Lloris clearly thought he could get there and to be fair to him he did, but GHod knows what went through his head when he got there, he sort of half-ass'd it when it looks to me like he could have just whacked it away, could have taken Downing out too and he'd only have got a yellow card as Vertonghen was covering. Or, he could have just stayed on his life as Downing would have went away from goal as Vertonghen was coming over.

All of that is true, and Vertoghen probably should have narrowed the shooting angle by closing the space to the attacker as well. Stupid pass by Walker but it shouldn't have ended up as a goal. A litany of errors, one after another.

I really think we need to make an example of Walker and disembowel him before the next home game and stick his head on a totem pole by the half way line to make sure every other player sees what happens when they make a mistake.

Or, perhaps, we could get behind him, and see it as just being part of every footballer's development - that they will make mistakes now and again and, hopefully, learn from those mistakes and become better players for it.

See, I understand everyone's disappointment. I wasn't exactly dishing out ice-cream and cheering. But you've hit a huge point here, which is the need to absolutely coat anyone who makes a mistake.
He will know.
The manager will know.
It will have been discussed and everyone will move forwards.
Same with Benny, who had one of his two dodgy games a season.
It's one disappointing loss which only happened this way because of mistakes.

I don't see it developing into a huge problem. A blip. This is so different from last season...

Agreed. It just brings up so many deep insecurities of being a Spurs fan.

There is a famous quotation, often attributed to Theodore Roosevelt, who is alleged to have said “the only man who makes no mistakes is the man who never does anything.” I was at the game yesterday and you could see from his immediate reaction that Kyle was horrified to have made that mistake. He will learn from this and he will be a better player for it.

It was a bad pass back which but Lloris under pressure, but both should have done better.

For me I thought we looked tired, we put ALOT into the Arsenal and Inter game to follow them with a tough trip to Anfield it was asking a lot.

I dont care about the Inter result as long as we dont get beat 4-0. Its all about Sunday get back to winning ways against Fulham, Bale should be refreshed for that game as well.

I'm shocked at some of the crap written on here, Walker has the potential to be a first rate full back, one who has a lot to offer going forward as well.

I hate to break this to any of you but, unfortunately, we cannot go out and pay £20 million for a fully developed full back, we have to try and spot potential and develop the player ourselves. This means they'll make mistakes some times, and for a defender that can mean conceding a goal sadly.

If you want to support a club that only has a team full of ready made super stars, go and support Real Madrid.

It's every week

I'm sick of some people who seem to think every player is exempt from critiscm after any mistake. It's a forum where people talk and mistakes like Walker made yesterday deserve criticising.

I don't think that anyone is saying that a player should be exempt from criticism, I think that it's the level and tone of criticism that gets questioned.

I think it depends - different players warrant different tones of criticism. For example IN MY VIEW Adebayor is a **** who has shown no effort - so warrants my criticism (IN MY VIEW).

Walker on the other hand made a mistake its just a mistake dammit. How many of us will go to work tomorrow and make a mistake? or two? or ten? I know I will but I will learn from it and not make it again (if all goes well). So he doesnt warrant the criticism he is getting for sure and I agree.

What annoys me is its the same people going OTT with the critism that will be kissing his ass next season when he is back to his best!

Support will have a better effect than critism, especially with younger players.

The problem is that it's not just isolated errors. He makes fudge ups every week. He also tends to make big fudge ups in crucial games, at crucial times. Too me, his mentality is weak, he panics when put under presssure. I think oppostion coaches are right onto him as well.

Absolutely this.
