Juan Foyth

so if we sign this lad as "one for the future" along with CCV being around. That has to mean the end of Wimmer. I cannot see us carrying 6 Centre backs for the season.

His move to West Brom will probably be confirmed early this week it seems.

Given our lack of activity, i can't get excited about signings we're not likely to see in action until a season or twos time.

Like giving your kid their Christmas present but telling them they can't play with it until Easter.

End of both I would have thought. Sanchez replaces Wimmer and Foyth replaces 2CV

I think Wimmer will go (because he wants to). I don't think the signing of either Sanchez or Foyth will mean the end of Carter-Vickers however. I would imagine that Pochettino will simply be hoping that at least one if Carter-Vickers or Foyth continues to develop and can become a first team player.

As with Onomah, It is possible that Carter-Vickers may get loaned out. He is at that stage where he is too good for under 23 football and that will not really develop him further but he isn't yet good enough to play for a team on our level.

Vertinghen is also 30 now and Toby not signed a contract yet, so succession planning could be underway and getting foyth and CCV bedded in the system for the next couple of years could be beneficial.

That's not to say that if Toby goes we won't need a big hitter to replace him of course.

Being relegated from 4th choice to 6th choice really isn't good news for 2CV at this stage in his career. I really don't see a future for him if this transfer happens.

He was 5th choice previously..... behind Vertonghen, Alderweireld, Dier and Wimmer. He retains his 5th choice position with Sanchez in and Wimmer out. Him and Foyth then battle to be the next choice to cover. The fact that (hopefully) we will play a lot of games and Dier will also be used in midfield sometimes means that both Foyth and Carter-Vickers are likely to get game time this season. Although I maintain that Carter-Vickers might be better served by a loan move and regular first team football.

CCV's true potential is difficult for most of us to assess. He obviously hasnt played much at all for our senior team so, unless you've watched a lot of our junior sides or the US mainly age-group internationals which he's played in, then you probably dont have any sort of first-hand view on it. Poch must have seen something to put him on the bench many times last year, however after Wimmer there wasnt much competition.

I share the view that his future is probably doubtful, though mainly due to the handful of times I've seen him, he's looked a bit slow and cumbersome. Personally I think he needs a loan to a league 1 of championship team to get some proper game tim

Hypothetical point however I wonder if he was from a more established football country and therefore possibly not got the international games which he has, then its possible that many Spurs fans might have a much lower opinion of him.

I worry that if we sign another right back whether walker peters will get enough game time. Poch called Onomah and walker peters and CCV out before the start of the season as 3 we might see more of.

Why worry? If poch thinks the player is good enough we have to trust the manager. He will get it wrong at times (i pinch myself too ... what a gent, i love him).

One example that springs to mind is Pritchard who looked bang on to earn his corn at spurs. Got shipped out to many people's dismay ... i think pochettino called it right.

I'm all for giving youth a chance, but the wing back roles when we play 3 at the back are one of the most important positions on the field. It's a position that provides much needed width when attacking which prevents teams from going narrow and closing the gaps making creating opportunities that much harder. For me Rose is the only option that provides that type of play, Davies and Tripps are solid backups but slowdown our play as they don't want to beat a man and KWP is still developing his game, so I I'm pleased we are at least looking to replace Walker with someone as dynamic.
