Jose Mourinho - SACKED

I think he made two big mistakes in selection today.

Dele should’ve started.
Aurier should’ve started.

I am somewhat in disbelief that I wrote that last comment, however the truth is that we needed him as an attacking presence today.

Unfortunately Tanganga had his worst performance to date also...

We are no better with Aurier mate.
There are fundamental reasons as to why we are getting overun but I'm in a pub drink atm so not going to go into it now.
Whatever the players , whatever the formation won't fix our problems, we needed an overhaul with new personnel
 
For me, as long as we can’t dominate areas of the pitch we will continue to struggle. For as far back as I can remember we have struggled to sign a brute of a CB, something we desperately need imo, it’s great having elegant ones like Toby/Jan but can’t say I have ever felt safe against set pieces etc as we don’t have anyone to go through people to get the ball clear (van dijk/Maguire/Zouma etc).
Similarly midfield now, we miss Sissoko for his physicality and I think we will improve when he is back. Granted he is limited technically and absolutely can be improved upon (we miss Dembele/Wanyama more) but he will instantly free up the likes of Winks/Lo Celso/NDombele etc.
Finally up front we miss Kane for the above mentioned reasons as well as his goal scoring. I think we can cope, and have done losing one of these area’s but right now we have nothing in all areas of the pitch so teams can just bully through us.

I think we have a long 3/4 months ahead of us and hope Jose is backed over the summer to fix it.

I would agree generally in fairness. As I said, I was alarmed at my own Aurier comment!

This is an excellent post and sums up my feelings well.
We do indeed need a brute of a defender that can win balls aerially and preferably be a bit quicker than the snails we have atm.
Being able to bring the ball out and pass is probably the least important requisite, especially if playing alongside Toby , although it does become more important if playing next to the technically limited Sanchez.
Also, a defensive midfielder is a must. We need more of a physical presence and winks / Lo Celso combination just doesn't cut it and from what I saw yesterday, neither does Ndombele with either of the aforementioned. The midfield area is a bit of a mess tbh as is the whole back 4/5.
It just doesn't look like any Mourinho midfield I've ever seen before. I'm sure he will want at least one CB and one midfielder and probably a RB.
I actually think we need a new LB too unless Sessegnon can step up ( presuming Rose has played his last game for the club).

The midfield is actually fine with Winks and Lo Celso. When we had just them two playing yesterday we made 233 passes... chelsea made 69. The difference was their was out balls wide too as we had lamela in and Davies pushed on too. Those numbers show those two in midfield can play out of a press. The issue was where was NDombele meant to be playing yesterday and why were our full backs scared to attack. Their lack of forward movement cost us extra men in midfield and that’s where we got over ran

We played five at the back ,leaving us one short in midfield or attack. Since the decline of Rose and sale of Walker , a back five has never worked for us. We could have had eleven at the back yesterday and still wouldn't have stopped those chances , our whole defence looks like it's running in treacle!
I saw little evidence of Winks playing out of the press and all his passes were square or backwards, this was not the case with Lo Celso, who tried to play forward at every opportunity.
I don't think the two of them are fine together because we still don't have a defensive midfielder in the team.
We were getting bullied , we are physically very weak as a team. Why do you think Son retaliated against this lot and got sent off? Why Lo Celso yesterday? The chavs suffocated us and they have a nasty, physical approach and they tactical foul continually, ( most teams do).
They know the dark arts and their defenders compared to ours , is like comparing night and day and don't get me started on Ndombele, the guys a total pussy. It was getting embarrassing !
Davies has always been as he was yesterday, safe, backward or square passes with nowhere near the positive , aggressive approach that Rose has. He doesn't take the game to the opposition and is slow and at times , clumsy ( sees midweek).

to me it was no coincidence that their goals were created down our left because we had Jan back who is way way way past it and very tired and out of place Davies. It was an odd call and I’d have maybe played Tanganga LB myself

the midfield is no where near as bad as people make out but theirs no out ball currently and the defence shift the responsibility with their long balls that come back putting the midfield under pressure.
When we played through midfield we looked miles better and created chances

Umm dropping Tanganga for a few games wouldn't have helped his confidence and as you said , playing him left back would have probably been better with Davies playing three games in 5.5 days but then Aurier has played a lot of football recently too, in a physically demanding position. Poch always rotated his full backs.
The more I think about it, the more I am coming to the conclusion that the squad assembly is a total mess. No forward cover for Kane, no genuine cover at RB or LB. No DM. Jeez , it's a car crash of a squad and severely short in numbers.
I also think of the three players we were in for last summer , the one that ended up at Utd is the one we should have got.
Yeah agree about Verts , looks like he is going through the motions or if not, then he is completely done.
The worrying thing is Toby has looked as bad of late!
 
I have always had a soft spot for Jose due to his total confidence in himself and that he wins. I also willing to not really get to stressed until he has has a full off season and has the players he needs to make his team.

That said, I am getting very worried with our style of play. You can say we have the 2nd most points since he joined from Liverpool. But in how many of those games were you confident we was going to win? not a lot of them whilst watching the match.

So. we have no forwards. So lumping it forward is not going to help is it. With the amount of wing forwards we have, I feel we should be playing higher up. With their pace they could hunt in a pack and press the opposition. At least then we might win the ball in the opposition half. We are conceding too much possession to the opposition. Way too much, we have no outlet so hitting on the break is not helping us.

I see all the arguments for not playing or not playing Parrott. But for me, whether he is old enough, good enough etc is not the point. He is a striker. And we need a striker. It will allow us to play a real formation with an actual threat up front. If now is not the time when we have Zero Forwards when is it? Play him in 1-2 games. See what happens.

Or are we just going to concede we have no strikers and limp to the end of the season? I don't get that!!

So I wont be on any band wagon against JM. I like to give all managers and players a chance. But its worrying. I will say that. We could have a very young ish and energetic front that can pressure. Give it a chance. WE cannot keep playing every game on the back foot. We are simply not good enough defensively to play like that either.

Im not a Mourinho lover and a Poch hater. Mourinho is who we have now and he needs time. Poch was the best manager since Burkinshaw, he had flaws but he was great. For whatever reason he did not want to be here at the end(I blame the stadium build)

The one team I always want us to beat are the Chavs especially after they dominated us for so long. So Saturday hurt a lot. That’s 3 straight wins now and our performances in each match have been lame. It has to stop now.

Excellent post mate. Jose’s style is very much predicated on ceding possession and hitting on the counter. Will be fascinating to see if he can change it up in a situation where he has to coach players who do not suit his preferred style.
