Jose Mourinho - SACKED

I don't think that's true, Mourinho is a very polished media performer, Poch has never been that and certainly wasn't at the beginning for us. Mourinho at his worst is nasty and rude, towards the end Poch got peevish and a bit weird.
You make good points as always. I think we're seeing something a bit different from Mourinho now than when he went back to Chelsea and when he took over at United. Perhaps the break has done him some good, perhaps he's really enjoying the challenge he's facing and being back in the game, perhaps it's all for show.

I think there are similarities between Mourinho now and early Pochettino, despite the differences you point out. The calm, composed confidence, the apparent happiness.

sounds like he has learnt from the feedback he sought after the United job and moved on from that

not if everyone has learned lessons, no
I don’t get why people in football think things and people can’t change
You just need to look at City it see how things can change in the game
And then look at who the managers were in the league 20 years ago to today see the contrast.
I suppose the argument is that Mourinho hasn't changed before despite repeated claims. That and the fact that people rarely change that much.

What makes me hopeful is the change in coaching staff and the break he's had from the game. People often don't change much, but different relationships brings out different qualities. And we've seen from other managers that a break might at times be needed and helpful. People often speak about limited time on the training ground for players in a hectic season, I think the same can be said about managers having time to evaluate and change their approach.

Time will tell, for now I'm just enjoying the ride and that feels a lot better than it did a week ago.

I liked the point @DubaiSpur made about the media work during his sabbatical. It's something that hadn't occurred to me and I think that there could be some truth in it.

Yeah I’d agree but looking at the number of games played it doesn’t equate right
It possible they player a few formations (heaven forbid they had a flexible manager) and also played 4-2-3-1

Most managers do in all honesty, some fans can get caught up with formations and how they are used. The truth is most of the best managers ( in todays game) can change formations from game to game when needed.

but he did change
He changed at every club
The reality is that sometimes it turned out bad
No one seem to ever what to factor in the clubs in the scenario
Chelsea first time was the best they have ever had
inter... they love him
Madrid... all those egos and never a plan
Chelsea again... wins the league and then player power kicks in
United... well they have been awful under every manager since Fergie so maybe it’s Fergies legacy that needs questioning

Well, 48 hours in and the train is steaming ahead, running at full-throttle.

I am still personally alarmed at how fast so many can push Poch into the rear-view mirror, and who can indeed simply find ways to mitigate their speedy forgetting of his work, but there we go, life is life and all that...JM has certainly come in saying the right things and behaving the right way. I have heard a lot of noise from friends who would know about the sheer level of his dedication to learning everything about our club and history. I have a deeper feeling about what will happen long term, but am simply going to push that off and support MY team and all it is doing. I won't sing his name. But I will still support MY team and hope he gets what he needs to make us tick. COYS.

I do understand your point mate i really do, i/we all loved Poch and i have always said on here we should have given him more time ( at least to the end of the season). There is no doubt that he has/did a GREAT job here and without a doubt i do not think we would be in the position we are now if Levy had not given him the job.

However life goes on and i have always believed that Jose is probably one of the best managers/coaches we have seen in the Prem and i never gone along with the hate that followed him around by some fans and among some papers. I have been lucky enough to have attended meetings when he has given talks to the FA coaches and his knowledge of players and formations is up their with the best.

I know for sure that during his time out of the game ( since Utd) he has travelled and attended all sorts of places trying to extend that knowledge. Will he bring us the trophys that we all want for our great club? who know but if i am being honest i really believe that he is the best man to do so.

Maybe they can, but I’d argue that a common theme of all the recent PL winners (and leaders so far this season i.e. Liverpool) is that they have a very clear system / formation that they rarely deviate from - Liverpool’s 4-3-3, City’s 4-1-4-1, Chelsea’s 3-4-3 and Leicester’s 4-4-2.

Is there any need for it to get toxic?
Levy has seen Mourinho's history, he has seen Levy's work. They've (apparently) had discussion befor
e.
If the contract is deliberately set at only three years with a fair understanding that this is not much more than a short-term appointment, then both parties could easily be satisfied by this. Especially as Jose is building on Levy and Pochettino's work in elevating the club's profile and squad as well as the infrastructure that finally seems near-ready to give significant boost to possible transfer spending.

On an unrelated point, I wonder if Jose sees any sort of parallel between Kane/Son/Moura and Drogba/Robben/Duff. I do not doubt that he really does feel that he has significant resources at his disposal and has enough confidence in his ability to believe that he can do big things with them

Well who knows but i am not convinced it will ( unlike some supporters i met at the game yesterday). I said the other day that i am sure Levy has spoken to Jose about signings and the amount of money we will have avaliabe for signings and i am sure it was laid out that Jose will not have the same amounts he had for throwing around at Utd.

Lets be honest Levy is not stupid, he laid the law down to " rent a quote" when he came here and its no coincidence that we are the only club that " rent a quote" did not leave with money problems.

As for your second point about the front three i agree he has thought about that formation and it worked yesterday.

Well obviously if a team is winning with a certain formation they will tend to stick to it. But that does not mean they can not/ do not change when needed. But if you listen to some fans they are blinded by formations more then the players/ mangers who can/do change during games.

The truth is most teams/players in todays game can switch( and usually do) when needed.

Pochettino will always have a special place in our hearts I think. He's been a great manager for us.

I think the fast reactions are partly pragmatic, and Pochettino's legacy will be appreciated more as time goes by. I also think it's partly a result of frustration with how the last ten months in the league has been.

A manager is more about the right man at the right time than about overall quality imo. The time was definitely right for Pochettino when he came and for years after that. For whatever reasons it was seemingly no longer the right time for him at Spurs. Better for everyone involved to move on, but remember with gratitude what he's done, who he is and all the great memories.

Finally I'd also like to point out that as great as Pochettino has been for us there's no doubt we've been great for him too. He too will be grateful I think, at least given time.

It's a truth that tams are drilled into shapes depending on possession, transition or defence.

When needed is by injury or score.

There's no need for it to get toxic providing Levy carries out the manager's wishes and brings in at least two thirds or his top targets and sells the players that the manager instructs he wants rid of and does so nearer to the front than the back of the transfer window. It is why I am desperate for us to get a Director of Football as I just can't see those things happening otherwise.

i am sure he will, providing the manager sticks to the budget that Levy would have discussed before him taking the job and the manager accepted.

I have heard and read a lot of comments about Lucas probably being aq player that would lose out under Jose. i am not so sure considering he tried to buy Lucas before he went to PSG, so I was not surprised to see him start yesterday.

We know also that he wanted to buy Dier, so he too has a chance to establish himself once again.

I am a lot less sure than you are.... Levy's tactic seems to be to negotiate right until the end of the transfer window to sell for more/buy for less which hampers his manager's preparations.

Not saying that he has never done that however i do think that is a stick those who dislike Levy ( not saying you are one of them) use far to often and its not always true. As i have said elsewhere Levy stopped " rent a quote" from doing to us what he did to many clubs by keeping a tight leash on him, i am sure he would have laid out the kitty limits to Jose before appointing him.

We shall see i guess.

As we saw yesterday and Poch did regularly, most change formation during a game.

Agreed, it was/is an excellent point. In fairness to Mourinho, it is probably the last area of managerial knowledge he needed to tune up.
