João Palhinha

I'm pleased we have him on loan, so we can fully assess how he is, what he brings to the pitch and off the pitch, whether he can play another year or 5 years etc. I would have been concerned if we sunk a lot of money into him, but as it is a loan, I think it is a great bit of business.

When we lined up against Arse and they had a midfield of Rice and Rapety behind Odegaard it was very solid and impressive. Ditto against lots of teams, you just know the midfield is proper and going to be a real task. Palhinha brings that to us.

Since then he’s struggled with injuries and found it hard to get into the Bayern team. Hopefully we get to see the best of him. Has the potential to be an important part of our jigsaw for this season.

Rumour is we are trying to get West Ham to take Biss + cash for Pacqueta...

...I initially wondered if Pahlinha's signing could release Biss to play as the 8 he is? But the riumour makes sense in light of Maddison...I think Pahlinha will allow the Bergys, Bents, and Sarrs to be 'braver' on the bal as the progressive portiuon of a pivot knowing the security is there. FBs too, if one wants to raid, as Pahlinha will be effective cover across the back and can also drop in to form a three if necessary. I think it's a really smart signing in terms of where we currently are squad-assembly wise.

As amazing as Paqueta would be I really can't see that happening.

Think he'll be a good signing. Doesn't solve our ball progression issues, but is a natural 6, should make us solid, bring experience and hopefully allow some of the others to thrive in roles more suited to them.
