January transfer rumour thread

Some agent has said on the radio that Defoe to Liverpool is at an advanced stage.

Rumours of a ?ú14 million fee.

Lols if we get 14 mil for a 30yr old striker in the twilight of his career, Levy's earned his wage if this goes through. Saha in to cover for 3 months for a few games and then use the 14 mil in the summer to help pay for a younger forward (Remy/Leandro). VdV has clearly been first choice all year and Saha when on form can be just as prolific as defoe. Won't be playing anything but cup games and a few appearances as a late sub much like Defoe mind..

I'll be really annoyed if we don't get a winger with pace. Just look at the games we've played without Bale and Lennon - Sunderland, Watford.....we are awful without them and we need some cover as Kranjcar and Pienaar just don't provide the pace and width that they do.

Hoilett, Marin, whoever, I don't care. But if we don't and those two get injured then we're well and truly fudged.

Marin didn't seem to look like a pacy winger to me from the games we played against Bremen. I thought he was more in the mould of Modric (when Modric used to play on the left for us).

Even if we don't have anyone in - this is a remarkable piece of business. Pav or Saha or Fraizer Campbell would fill in for a few months then invest properly in the summer. Like we've always done before following a major departure. lol

14 mil for a limited player with no re-sale value - great deal.

Whilst I agree that it is good business re:defoe the thought of having just Ade as a striker plus VDV in the withdrawn role as our only real first team starter players for the last 20+ games of the season is ridiculous if we are serious about wanting to finish 3rd and do well in the cup. That is one injury away from finishing with nothing. Saha/Rodellego (sic) in as 4th choice for Pav is one thing ..... getting rid of the 3rd choice and having two 4th choices is insane.

We'd still have Pav, Gio and possibly some clogger crock on loan. Defoe doesn't start PL games anyway and we can even play Bale alongside the striker if really desperate for a few months.

Too good of a deal, mate

ANYONE with the name of R.Williams is good. Trust me. ;)

Ricky agrees

I'm not interested in resale value right now; more about finishing in top 3 and champions league. Be madness. If we were interested in money why the hell is Gio still here, and other pointless squad players. Selling our top PL scored would be utterly stupid.

Large part of me agrees ..... but the half empty side just sees the inevitable leg break to either VdV or Ade in tonights game when it is too late to sign a starting quality striker and us drifting for the rest of the season as Pav and Gio take up the strain. I rated Saha but just not convoinced he would do it for the rest of the season ....and we are soo close to 3rd, maybe even 2nd that even at 14m that seems a gamble .....

has to be done if it is a real bid but I'd hope for something better than Pav & saha & Gio as our plan B for the rest of the season.

I rate Saha but he's injury Prone and has been garbage this season. Let's leave it.

surprised you're using this season's form as a factor tbh. you dont think that's a bit short term and gold fishy? over his career saha has shown that his game is much more than just goals. plus he's strong, relatively quick, intelligent, plays without the kind of fear that alot of player get when they come across BIG teams.

injury aside he's a very good purchase. unfortunately the injury is about 90% of the deal

if Defoe is off to Liverpool then it must mean Carroll is on his way to Spurs.

This is a deal i can see Redknapp and Levy agreeing upon

However, a Ba/Carroll swap makes more sense. Carroll is homesick, Ba has that ridiculously low buyout clause, Saudi Sportswashing Machine have already signed a Ba replacement in Cisse and still need a big man like Carroll

Not a chance they'd strengthen us with Carroll while pushing for 4th while limiting their striking duo to 'can't pass / won't pass'
