Ah, so you weren't joking. My apologies. However, I disagree. His passing accuracy is actually fairly accurate over the season, and in some games (against Everton, for example) absolutely imperious. He registered a 90 percent pass completion rate in that one, I believe. I agree that most of them are backwards or sideways, but he was never meant to be the link man between defence and attack, a la Modric, more a screener of the defense. And in that respect, he's already unrecognizable from the hesitant player he was against United in the first game. He's more confident, his positioning has come on in leaps and bounds, and he's settled into our passing rhythm really well. If he continues this rate of improvement, I see no reason why he can't challenge Sandro for a place in the future. As for playing against Real or Barca, 99 percent of defensive mids around the world would have a hard time of it. They're just in their own respective leagues. Livermore can do a decent job, and I fail to see why he has to be judged on Real or Barca standards; we're not at that level, and we won't be until we have a massive global fanbase, pay massive wages, have won innumerably more trophies than we currently have and proudly inhabit our 60,000 seater stadium. Only they can afford to bench players like Mascherano or Diarra, in order to provide world-class squad depth. We can't do that right now, and Livermore is perfect for our needs; a solid, improving young player, who has potential, would comfortably grace most mid-table teams' sides (Sunderland? Norwich?West Brom? I'm sure he'd get into all their midfields) and is loyal to the club. Eventually, I see no reason why he can't play for the likes of Saudi Sportswashing Machine, Everton or Villa, and that's not much of a step down from where we are, so in terms of cover and competition, I don't think we can get much better.
