Injuries

My thoughts on pilates, yoga, stretching, massage etc is that it needs to be an individual plan as every players physiology is different.

People talk about Giggs. Aguero another. Ledders / McGrath others.

The big question is whether every player's body is treated uniquely or whether we're doing one-size-fits-all strategies with this important area?

With all the money floating around in the game, there's absolutely no reason why we shouldn't tailor this for every player's unique needs. Anything else would be negligence. Same with nutrition, rest, etc.

I agree, but it's not just about this logic. It's about the weekly schedule.

I would assume that time is created in that schedule and we have osteopaths, masseurs, yoga/pilates specialists etc. Only some of these activities can be done collectively. Even pilates and yoga is way better in smaller groups. You get so much more attention from the tutor.

Hadn't thought about the schedule, but that can obviously also be an issue.

You'd think though that the club would have a holistic approach to player health/fitness, and that every player would have an individually tailored, daily/weekly plan based on scientific metrics/tests. It shouldn't be impossible to make time for individual therapy/training, or in smaller groups (you already get that with players returning from injury).

They probably do. You'd think that a PL footballer would have facilities at home as well, and the club would work with them to get the right specialists in at their convenience.

Add in 3rd on number of injuries and it's just a fudging viscous circle

- Too small a squad
- Relentless playstyle of both distance run and sprints
- Leads to injuries
- Leads to too small a squad ..

I'm sure that definitely happens. I recall about 16 or 17 years ago my then-Pilates teacher was working with West Ham players and I remember her telling me she had been to visit Mark Noble in his new house.
So it's not anything new.

Get the feeling we’re always gonna have an injury crisis as long as this guy is in charge. By the time we get Romero and VDV back they will need time to get up to speed just in time for the next crisis.

Squad is too small only because Ange has refused to use it until forced to. He could easily have rotated a small amount earlier in the season but refused to. Now he has no choice but to use it.

This is something that he can’t possibly defend imo
Although… having players come back from injury and get injured next game is a worrying theme and I don’t know how much is on him
So far we have had it with Oderbert, Richy, Romero and Micky… and Micky was managing his minutes apparently
Scary really

Looking at that table nabbing the Bournemouth manager won't improve the injuries attributed to playing style.

Liverpools figures are more or the less the same as ours and they seem to be doing ok.
Unless they are rotating more. Not sure about Bournemouth, but Liverpool seem to put out a slightly different team every week due to rotation (rather than forced) - Fergie used to do this too.
It's Ange's biggest failing so far IMO. You can't say his tactics haven't worked, but it needs a hell of a lot of energy to work, and when the players are tired, and a lack of movement and commitment, it's a brick show.

Pool make changes very game except for VVD who is the ever present it seems

Yet a bunch of people on here want us to replace our current manager with the manager of Bournemouth....

Liverpool's stats are also broadly similar to ours and yet they are fine. Is that because they have a bigger, better squad than us or could it be that they have just been less unlucky with injuries?

Hmmmm..... I'm not particularly convinced.

We've used 25 players in the PL this season (joint 5th most). Chelsea have used 24, Liverpool, Arsenal, Nottingham Forest, Saudi Sportswashing Machine and Aston Villa 23, Emirates Marketing Project 22.

The only team above us in the table to have used more players than us is Brighton (who have used 28 players).

Teams with the most injuries tend to use the most players...

A better way to illustrate the point either way would be to look at when the squad players started to rack up their minutes - were they used because they had to be or were they being integrated before they were needed to plug gaps?
