Some people have alluded to it in the past, and i'd like to revisit it for my own clarity (and sanity!):

- What are the external factors for why certain players get picked for the England national team over others? It can't simply the 'big club bias' can it? I mean Jesse Lingarrd vs Wilfried Zaha: what's the difference? And don't many 'big clubs' try to limit their players involvements now? Can it simply be advertising that a player like Rooney keeps getting picked?
Why is Gibbs constantly in the squad over, say, Danny Rose for example? Gibbs as a left-back is shocking imo and doesn't even get into Arsenal's first team now?

And Walcott getting picked over Defoe in 2006: i think @Superted stated this was because David Dein promised Walcott that is what would happen if he signed for Arsenal and then pulled a few 'FA Favours' to make it happen. But why would anyone at the FA be interested in helping him get a 17 yo player to Arsenal in that way?

Can someone please break down how these 'outside' influence work?

My opinion on why it happens(not that I agree) : Big club bias, Bigger clubs get their pick of players, if you are with a big club then you are automatically better than similar players as if they were any good they would be at a big club.

Lingarrd - they (Southgate) thinks he has a higher ceiling than others available, he is unlikely to get a game so who do we want to give experience to. The same thing for Mason - read Westham for example they think Noble is deserving / better (I don't), and he has been playing. Mason is still growing as a player so even if they are similar levels now (they are not) you bring in the guy with growth.

Danny Rose, if you have played for England you are in until you do something wrong - he knows and trusts Gibbs as 3rd or 4th choice LB why bring in rose as he doesn't fancy Gibbs or Rose.

Walcott was just hype, think they believed he could be the next Owen, make an impact. Turns out he is made of glass and is pretty crap.

Kane like the rest of them were totally rubbish. I was embarrassed for Kane against Spain. Couldn't hold it up let alone cause their defence and keeper any problems. Scuffed a couple of shots.
I thought Kane fought well for the ball and laid it off well; he usually had 2 Spaniards on his back and one in his shorts. However Lallana was DIABOLICAL. Everything he tried went wrong. And Sterling was poor too. Yes, Kane scuffed his shots.

Doesnt matter who play for England. You cant help but hate them because of the England Band. You think they would have got the memo tonight.

Clyne has been pretty poor thus far. His ball usage is terrible IMO. Have to say, Dele looks a bit lost out there too.

Superb play by Harry, wonderful pass to Dele, made a great run but couldn't get the control. Shame. Lovely football.

Dele clicking now, pretty much at the centre of anything worth seeing, Dier doing a great patrol job and Kane playing like an elder statesman. Thenfutuzre is screamingly bright...

Aaaaaaand his adjustment/comfort is complete! A SUPERB strike from Dele. 25 yarder past Hugo!!!!!! and now 'Arry's at it, nearly beat Hugo on his near post!

United fans giving it the Kane and Alli will be at OT in the summer, they really think they are still good dont they, players dont fall over themselves to go there anymore
