Could find a thread for the FA, so will put this here.
FA's Greg Dyke announces plans to restrict non-EU players
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/32024808
Fair enough you might think, until this quote:
"How many other Harry Kanes are around in the youth teams of Premier League clubs? It was almost by chance that Tim Sherwood became manager at Tottenham for a time and put him in the side - otherwise he would still be out on loan at Millwall or somewhere else."
Seriously!?! Now I already had a very low option of Mr Dyke and have no idea what he's doing at the Football Association, but how can you be the Chairman of the FA and have such ignorant views?
fudgeing hell...
Wrote a rant in another thread on the FA and such things, but what the bastard? Should be extremely grateful to clubs like us and Southampton who are actually developing young English players, but this is the kinds of comments we get...
It's just ridiculous.
So instead of focussing on better coaching / facilities to bring the level of English players up. We'll instead restrict foreign players for being better than us and bring the average level down.
Ironically, meaning any increase in English players will be playing at a lower standard.
Rose, Walker, Mason, Townsend and Kane all in the England squad. Four academy graduates. Tremendous achievement.
Not sure about limiting the number of foreign players myself. Might have a positive effect if more domestic players get first team opportunities and can push on from there to improve. Though on the other hand, as you say, it might also lower the overall quality thus the players produced could potentially not be quite as good.
Spain and Germany seems to be good models to want to have a look at, neither has limitations on foreigners in their top leagues as far as I know... Much smaller league, but Belgium has also started producing some real quality players, famously whilst importing a lot of players.
Not convinced either way, but it doesn't seem necessary to produce quality home grown players.
Wembley is sold out... Italy is away.Lots of young local players ..... tickets not selling well, then ?
And a fairly lax immigration/passport system.I think that Belgium is a bit of an anomaly, many of their players were developed abroad, so maybe it is just freaky good luck.
Shirt looks alright - better than the Wetherspoons uniform they put out last time.
Is this a special for our game in Italy?
The GG Select XI could beat Lithuania, I think Harry would be OK."In qualifiers you don't experiment," he told Morning View. "You go with tried and trusted. You go with what you've got. Win the game first and then you may be able to bring him on
Hang on a minute, how many World Cups have that lot won?Tried and trusted. Does he also feel England should bring back Ferdinand, Terry, A. Cole Gerrard and Lampard instead of "experimenting" with in form players?
