Hugo Lloris

"It was poor,” said Lloris. “It could have been dangerous, but the striker (Christian Benteke) put his header off target, fortunately for us.

“It was an important game for me, an introduction to the Premier League after three to four weeks of waiting and working. Whether with Brad, goalkeeping coaches or even with the manager, everything has gone well.”

Admits his flaws and also admits that he's getting along well with Brad and the goal keeping coaches.

BUT THE SUN TOLD ME BRAD AND HUGO HATE EACH OTHER AND THEY FIGHT AND AVB CAN'T CONTROL THE UNREST AND DISSENT!!

I AM SOOOO fudging CONFUSED!

HUGO LLORIS has told Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas: To be at my best I need to play every week.

Tottenham’s new keeper finally made his first Prem start against Aston Villa on Sunday.

The £12million deadline-day signing from Lyon looked assured as he helped his side to a comfortable 2-0 victory — their fourth league win on the trot.

But despite keeping a clean sheet on his top-flight debut, he is likely to find himself back on the bench when leaders Chelsea visit White Hart Lane on Saturday week.

AVB admitted Brad Friedel — who made way for France No 1 Lloris after 310 consecutive Prem appearances — remains his first choice.

Les Bleus skipper Lloris, 25, said: “Over the past month, I’ve played only three games. It takes a little more concentration, especially working at training.

“I try to compensate, but the truth is the game of the weekend is what matters. I was used to playing in games every three days with Lyon.

“And to progress, to be effective, it’s better to play every week with the team.”

Lloris’ situation at Spurs has caused a right old kerfuffle across the Channel.

French boss Didier Deschamps has slammed Villas-Boas for not making Lloris his first-choice immediately.

AVB, to his credit, realises there is no way he can just bin Friedel after the 41-year-old American’s fine form this season.

And, to be fair, Lloris is not spitting out his dummy while waiting for his chance.

He added: “I am not worried by the situation.

“From the moment I signed for Tottenham I have invested 200 per cent. I show it every day in training with a lot of enthusiasm because all this is new to me and especially because it is the Premier League, the best league in Europe.

“It’s has not been complicated for me. I have always been ready to play.

“The coach has made his choice. I must just stay focused as I have done before with Nice, Lyon and the France team.

“I am getting my bearings and I hope to play more and more to be at my best.”

Despite his wait for a Prem start, Lloris has wasted no time becoming a crowd favourite at the Lane. He made a couple of crucial stops and catches — although he nearly blotted his copybook at the start of the second half when his poor throw almost led to a goal.

He admitted: “That was poor and it could have been dangerous for us.

“Fortunately they put the chance off target. But when you sign for a club at the last minute, it’s never easy. The negotiations were protracted.

“Normally, you get the chance to know your team-mates before the season starts, but I started straight away in competitive matches. I still need a few games to find the rhythm.”

Lloris is also already a popular figure in the Tottenham dressing room. Defender Steven Caulker, who scored against Villa, said: “Hugo’s learning English and it’s coming on really good.

“He made a fantastic save in a one-on-one and proved his worth.

“We communicate fine on the pitch. He understands the English he needs to know and he’s very vocal. Off the pitch, he’s very humble and a good character.

“He’s had to be patient and he’s handled that fantastically well. The gaffer gave him the nod against Villa and I thought he did well.”

Jiggins is back!!! Some nice bits of backtracking in there. I'm not sure how 'it's better to play every week' means 'I need to play every week'.

I would love to hear what AVB's logic was to giving Lloris a game? Personally I would have stuck with Friedel but in the end 3 points is all that matters and I will support whoever is between the sticks.

Trying to get in AVB's head I am thinking Villa is really poor at home should be a nice match to get his feet wet and while he knows it will be a distraction until Brad loses his streak might as well do it in a game like this where it shouldn't really matter who is in goal. So now all the talk of will the streak end? Will Lloris ever play in PL? its all done and dusted and we can move on and assess them on a week to week basis.

'No,' the Spurs boss replied when asked whether Lloris was now his no 1.

'We spoke among the staff this week about it and we thought it was logical to let Hugo come into a Premier League game because he can't just play in the Europa League.

'Brad obviously was disappointed with the decision but accepted it like the good professional he is.'

'Obviously the change was not based on performance because Brad has been immense for this football team,' the 34-year-old said.

'We respect that and we will surely look at that for the game against Chelsea.

'This was a chance to give Hugo a continuous run of games for Tottenham and the national team.'

Cheers for that hadn't seen it good on AVB then hard to argue with that logic really

He also said that what with him going off to play a couple of games in the international break it would give him a healthy run of games

Or something like that

That's what it says right there. ;) :-"

Simple answer = Lloris is a better player
Media answer = quoted by others above.

People keep going on about Brad's form, message to team, etc. That's all BS in my opinion, if we bought Falcao tomorrow, would we wait for a JD drought? or if we bought Ronaldo, we would wait for Lennon to have a brick game? no, better player plays.

x1

Ironically - both Brad and Lloris were on comparable form prior to the Villa game

I think you are selling Brad short though there is a huge difference between Defoe and Falcao and Ronaldo/Lennon not so sure there is between Lloris and Friedel

I respect Brad and what he has done for Spurs (and in his career in general), and while that gap may not be as exaggerated an example as I used above, once you add in Brad's age and fact that his best is behind him, compared to Lloris potential, it's a simple decision.

I wouldn't say the gap is that big. Falcao is clearly the best out and out striker in the world right now, Defoe wouldn't even be in the top 20. Whereas Lloris is not the undisputed no.1 goalie in the world, and Friedel is still one of the best in the prem.

Agreed about his age and Lloris is obviously the future for us hopefully for a decade now its definitely a good problem to have two keepers with this ability.
