Many in the south are black... but yeah, there's racists everywhere.

The south, for whatever reason, still loves their rebel johnny roots from the civil war. They still think they deserved to win the war and they still have anniversary balls commemorating the first shots fired. Some southern states include portions of the confederate flag on their own state-flags.
The south is incredibly delusional in this respect; the civil war was fought primarily because southern plantation states didn't want the feds telling them what to do with their 'property'. So when southerners claim that the war was fought over states' rights, they are somewhat correct in that regard, but to be more specific, those states simply wanted the right to continue the practice of slavery. To continue flying the flag over statehouses was extremely controversial, but the NAACP has gotten most of the states to remove those flags, which are horrible reminders of our past.

I see some parallels to today, not in terms of slavery specifically, but in the premise of being against the federal government despite what it might provide. Perhaps it's difficult to acknowledge a good thing when it's not tangible.

This doesn't explain why racism exists but not homophobia though? It really baffles me that they can get away with such hate speech.

And the geezer who said if his daughter was raped and got pregnant then she would just have to accept it as 'a gift from GHod'? Good grief.

There are nutters, racists, homophobic people everywhere...but they can't run for office where I come from.

It's all under a veil of religion. You need to remember that parts of the US are far more religious than England. There is a large religious constituency to appeal to if you're a politician. Staunch Christians and Catholics are against gay marriage, and they are against abortion. It's pretty simple. They don't see it as hate speech. They aren't advocating that you go out and overtly oppress homosexuals, just that they shouldn't get married because of what Jesus said. Gay marriage isn't legal in the UK either.

I don't agree with them, btw. If you're a dude and wanna marry a dude, then marry the dude. Not my problem.

college football isn't so bad, the few part games i have caught were pretty entertaining - couldn't watch a whole game though. NFL is turd

at the end of the day it's just an elaborate game of catch isn't it ? i mean i get the tactical side of it could be appealing but the game itself just require no skill- the QB for example - all he does for his whole career is throw a ball over and over again. then the they have a player which just comes out to kick a try (or whatever i is they call it) - this guy has made a career out of coming on a couple of times a game just to kick a ball - and then trot off again ! then the rest of the team is just made up of huge guys that can run fast and catch the ball (now and again)


i like Americans, friendly people mostly, but they do have a kind of lovable idiocy about them and very unaware of the world outside of their own country. when i went travelling you rarely came across any - considering how close latin america is you'd have thought they'd be everywhere - but in 9 months i met less than 5, which i thought was strange

I'll gladly take the heat off my American brothers; they've carried the burden of being the world's whipping boy for far too long. Leave the US alone - Canada is responsible for Jim Carrey, Celine Dion and the worst group in the world RUSH; pile on folks.
 
I've often thought that many Brits belittle the USA because of their inferiority complex, much the same way as the Celts (try but fail to) belittle England. In short, I can't be one so I'll sneer at them instead.

Just a thought.

I wasn't the only person to call you out on your hypocrisy. In fact, I wasn't even the first. So objectively, we'll just take the fact that you're a hypocrite as a certainty. Subjectively, if we take your word for it, we'll just say that you were being ironical. I'm not a judge, but I imagine that objective facts placing someone at the crime scene carry more weight than the criminal saying they didn't meant to do it.

2. You're right. As an American who is somewhat intelligent, I don't like that Americans are being made to look ignorant, and I'm tired of seeing it on these boards. HOWEVER, my initial post was in no way an attack on you, it was blanket statement of exasperation. You responded by telling me to get off my high horse, and then proceeded to make a high horse remark of your own (which have continued throughout this thread). At the point of your initial douchebaggery, I decided you were personally worthy of my animosity. You've done nothing yet to dispel that notion. I don't think this makes me ignorant. You have multiple posters on this thread telling you you're full of brick. You've earned it.

3. My answer to your final assertion is really just going to mirror point #2. I am planning on murdering the people who made the video. Don't worry about that.

Typical American, thinks he rules the world. You come on a forum full of people from England, and tell us we cant post something that is a very English thing to do - mock stupid Americans. There are various posts also mocking parts of England - Liverpool seems to be in for it on here lately. Take it how it is meant, with a pinch of salt.

Right I'm off to find an american forum and tell them not to make jokes about my teeth and inform them that they can no longer assume I speak like the queen.
 
Oh and another thing, American Football is seriously boring. I can only assume the reason it takes so long is because the average american takes so long to understand what is going on (because they are so slow - just adding that for the americans who are still trying to work out what I meant).
