Harrys Trial

I dont want Redknapp to leave. I love him. Hes a legend.

Typical isnt it. Why did they not try to give wenger or Ferguson the job ten years ago. fudging typical.
 
The England job is a poison chalice. He'd take it, get us knocked out of a couple tournaments at the quarter final stage and probably never have a chance to manage a team in our position again.

He has a genuine shot at winning a title with us over the next couple years if we invest wisely in one or two quality players, I don't see how the England job trumps us at the moment.

Hopefully Levy and Harry have an understanding on the situation and Levy is being pro active and looking at any possible candidates to replace him should he leave. We should have someone in place to start within days if Harry chooses to step out the door.

The worrying thing for me is he's 64 now. He give England a go. If it doesn't work out he could just decide to retire. Reputation breaker as the job may be, he would have the belief in himself that he could make a better attempt than his predecessors.
 
If I was Redknapp I'd stay at least 4 more years and possibly take the England job AFTER the world cup in Brazil. Let's face it, were not winning it in Brazil. Argentina, Brazil, Spain, Holland, Germany, Uruguay, Mexico and possibly a couple of other South American teams have a better chance of winning it than we do even though the bookies over here will have us as 2nd favourites.

so apart from Redknapp, who else is there. Hodgson? Pardew? Curbishley? wow im really struggling now

like i said before, the academy is for rejects. what would you like the academy to achieve with rejects?

It was a unanimous decision.

After seeing Harry's comments on the courtroom steps I have a feeling he'll turn down the England job if offered now, at least for a few years anyway. He was genuinely moved by the support the club has given him and indeed the support the fans have given him too, and to show his gratitude he'll stay at the club I think. Especially now that he is known as a man who pays his debts (he he).

Harry's the best English manager out there at the moment. Roy Hodgson gave him a run for his money with Fulham, but that's gone down the chute. Pardew's a wildly fluctuating anomaly. But there are good English managers out there who have the potential to become great, given time. Nigel Adkins, for example, who's overachieving with Southampton. Chris Hughton, who's doing the same with a threadbare squad stripped of most of its top performers. Chris Powell, in League One, who's flying with Charlton. All of these are managers who can become greats if given the chance, and they certainly deserve to be considered for any England job, be it the main man, the U-21 manager, or even the U-18 coach. More so than Goddle, even though it pains me to say it.

You used the academy as an example of why he should be hired, I'm not the one who should have to define it's achievements. You've said he's doing a good job, then when it comes in to question said that he doesn't really have a chance of doing anything good there anyway.

That's like me setting up an archery for blind people academy, some may think I'm doing a good deed and such but essentially I'm giving false hope.

I don't see why we necessarily have to go English, personally I think Bilic could do a good job, he's essentially the Redknapp of international football anyway.

Out of interest, why do you think the academy was set up for? And what criteria are you judging it as a failure?

Finally, you say Hoddle has no man management skills. The only person who can be so certain as to say such a cast iron statement must be someone who has experienced working under him first hand (I doubt even the biggest idiot would be so confident purely based on media stories and rants from potentially bitter ex players). Who are you?
 
I think Harry would be foolish to take the England job, mainly because

a) We have no chance of winning it, especially in Brazil
b) Our current team is very poor. The "golden" generation never achieved (for whatever reason) and this up and coming generation aren't as good as that one. I know things can turn around quickly, but looking at the current crop of up and coming English players I really can't see England doing an awful lot for the next three big competitions.

Can I just say that it's nice to see people actually appreciating the work Harry's done. Sounds a bit crazy, but cast your minds back to September 1st and there were many people hoping Redknapp would be sacked.

He's turned our club around in 3 and a half years. I really hope he stays, but won't begrudge him anything if he goes. I think he would do a fine job for England.

Why? I see no reason to believe this. None of our up and coming players are much better then those in the 'golden generation'.

Like who? As much as it pains me to say it, Wheelchair looks quality (if he can ever get fit) and so does Jones. Too early to say about Chamberlain. Other than that there are no youngsters that really stand out. The golden generation have one major competition in them. The transitional players (the likes of Ashley Young for example) simply aren't of the required quality and are getting caps because of a lack of talent.

I'd love to be proven wrong, but I can't see a short term uplift.
 
Just seen Gomes being interviewed outside WHL on Sky Sports News. I haven't got any sound, anyone see it and know what he said? Maybe he's annoyed with Harry getting off as it means he's staying out of the team ;)

Who could we possibly appoint who would put him in the team? Apart from his dad, obviously.
