Harrys Trial

Harry is so clever, he is willing to take a lifetime of ridicule about how stupid he is......in order to help him beat the rap.

Genius!

I once handled a case where my client was successful because the Court determined that he was as stupid as he looked! This client was waiting at Court and noticed a familiar face. It was the actor Richard Harris. After a while he plucked up courage and asked him "Ain't you Peter O'Toole?"

Ignorance of the law excuses no man so all this talk of him being stupid is no defence whatsoever to the allegation. He has already said his accountant sorts his business so which is it.

However, if you have money you tend to be more likely to 'get off' cases like this.

soooooooooo

any legal bods on here want to give a summary of the prosecution

any ideas on the likely outcome based on the evidence provided thus far

i want the truth

you can't handle the truth

EDIT - I posted that in caps but apparently Scara says nooooooooo

What a clown shoe

To get a conviction the prosecution must prove, beyond reasonable doubt, that Redknapp intended to defraud HMRC. If the defence suggest that he wasn't "clever enough" to have that intention, they might introduce enough doubt to get an acquittal.

I am sure it has been answered but why would Harry not want to pay "?ú30,000" in tax? He was a millionaire who was earning ALOT of money.

Because super rich people love paying as little tax as possible? And they hire very intelligent people to find every conceivable loop hole to save every conceivable penny?

Because rich people basically fund the country and are already over taxed, so try to claw back as much as they possibly can?

Don't try to turn this into a class warfare debate again TMK, my household is on the highest tax band in this country and I haven't gone crying about it in every political debate on random, nor do I fiddle my taxes to pay less.

Whichever way you're saying it, both of our comments explain why someone like Redknapp would wish to not pay 30k in tax. And why he would go out of his way to ensure he pockets that money, rather than paying it in tax.

unless he is literally departed this will happen

He don't understand the tax laws too good.

Again? WTF are you going on about? I gave you a reason as to why he'd do it. Just the same reason why almost everyone else in his shoes would try and do the same IF they thought they'd definitely get away with it. No one likes paying tax, and most people will do what they can to ensure they pay as little as possible.

Again? You are Spursfan1957 and we have had multiple chats on the last board about how the rich subsidise the untermensch and spongers below us.

Why are you giving me any reasons? I wasn't asking the question, I was answering it. And we both came effectively to the same conclusion. The rich love scrimping on every possible penny and making sure they keep as much as possible in their bank accounts.

So what was your problem? Why are you giving me a reason that I already know? And to a question that I didn't ask?

Never said that it was. They just have enough money to make sure they have very intelligent people doing it for them. Its why Buffet can pay less tax as a proportion of his salary than his secretary. Or why Romney paid 14% on tax last year (and almost certainly a lot less previously when the plan wasn't to run for president).

Anyway, this wasn't meant to be some kind of attack on the rich, as I said, our household already pays the highest tax band, I'm hardly sitting here crying because someone is earning a large amount of money and I'm sitting here on minimum wage. DHSF asked why Redknapp would want to save 30k in tax. I provided a reason.

Unless he is certified by a doctor to be departed ...

Superb!!! I'd have to say, he's already written his own certificate with regards to the terraces. I have to admit, if we come across supporters smart enough to hold up a banner saying something like

I AM NUT A KRIMINOL

I would have to offer total respect. Instead it'll be the usual boring songs...good GHod there's a golden opportunity for supporters to regain some clever humour-ground here!

I remain really concerned as to what effect Redknapp's defense and subsequent new reputation as a thicko is doing to our hopes of getting a great stadium sponsorship deal.

I agree but I dont think people like Harry would try to save on tax illegally. Yeah he will hire Accountants to try to find loopholes etc but doubt he would do this stuff illegally. And why only that payment? why not other payments?

Maybe I just find it difficult to believe/fathom that Harry would do it. Then again I do not know him personally

On the story of Oxford United:

The guy who Harry gave the 250k to ran off to spain after mugging off some gypsy family. They went and done him in. Harry knows he wont get his money back, but they got their comeuppance!
