The old Redknapp thread should go in classics.

I think all managers should be on a rolling one year contract.

Not if it was a blanket rule. Save on compensation either way and would provide an incentive to the manager to perform.

It would be a deterrent to any manager who had the option between us and another similarly sized club offering a longer contract

I bet we'd all be chuffed if that was our working terms

I'm sorry Mr Cooper - but we are worried in case you end up with a facial tic caused by the road traffic accident you were in, where you were given the last rites and your friends died

You see, we won't be keeping saggy faced tacos on if that happens

I'd prefer to keep Harry, but Levy has to make a decision right now. Today. It should have already been made. Either back him or sack him. Because there's five potential scenarios that can happen next season:

1. Give Harry a new contract - we do well
2. Give Harry a new contract - we flop
3. Sack Harry - new manager does well
4. Sack Harry - new manager flops
5. Let Harry work to the end of his contract - we flop

We just cannot have a season of uncertainty hanging over the managers head. We'll struggle to finish top 5 if that's the case. Think about our form when people thought Harry was going to England. Think about our form between when we approached Ramos to Jol getting sacked. Think about Man Utd's form when Ferguson announced he was retiring at the end of the season. Think about Bordeaux's form when they blew a 9 point lead from the top of Ligue 1 to finish 6th when people started talking about Blanc going to France.

It is really very simple. IF WE GO INTO THE SEASON WITH QUESTION MARKS OVER OUR MANAGER'S FUTURE THEN WE WILL STRUGGLE.

which was the point HR made - and started all the wolves howling again

Yes, he did.

But it was the direct opposite of what he said back in Feb when he denied that the England manager speculation would be having any effect on the players.
You see the comparison, don't you?

We all know football is so far detached from thereal world you can't compare a football manager to the average working man.

Yes, he did.

Yes but honestly, what choice did HR have at that moment? He couldn't say that it was going to affect him could he? At least the question of manager has been raised. On Mick C's mail above, maybe the 60/40 rule should apply then and we say bye-bye Harry now as this has the least potential damage to the league chances next season?

FFS levy either back him or sack him, don't eff around with this halfway house flimflam!!

Levy backed him in february with a new contract but redknapp hitched his skirt. Now he's come crawling back and he expects us to give him a long term contract whilst he goes moaning to his mates in the media about Levy's stinginess in negotiations, all the while Levy is burying his mother. Its the actions of someone who has no empathy and is only looking out for number one.

We just need it sorting. We say it every summer, but doing our business early should be the priority. Sort Harry out one way and try and sort those signings in and out. Really focus the squad and feel what we don't need, really plan how we're going to use our kids (inevitably) in Europe so which ones on season long loans. And get our first team squad to a great level. Not loads of work, but impossible with all this managerial uncertainty.

he probably had absolutely no idea what was going to happen at that point - what possible experience could he draw on to make the statement that he did - apart from a gut feeling.

It turned out to be wrong - but now he can speak from personal experience.

Does that make him a fool because he cant see into the future, or a wise man because he's learned from the past?

come off it Mick, do you think up until that point Redknapp had no idea how players would react to uncertainty with regards to whether the manager is here for the long term ? surely a career in football management would have given him a little insight in to how things like that work

he knew it would have a negative effect, but at the time he had to say it wouldn't so he couldn't be held to blame for any potential loss of form as a result - not that i blame him for taking that stance
