Hendry and Houghton are two great shouts from when I was young and impressionable. I remember Houghton scoring 2 v Luton I think in a 4-1 win and thinking he was unplayable. From memory, he had pace to burn and I couldnt understand Venables not giving him more chances. Ended up working as a policeman I think.

Hendry always seemed to score whenever he played. Thought it was just a matter of time with him and, like Houghton, he never got opportunities. Scored 2 in one of our only PL wins at Woolwich too although they were preparing for the Cup final that week.

I guess the fact both disappeared into relative obscurity proves I overrated them both but younger me sure was expecting great things for them.
 
I remember hendry getting 2 particular runs - as you say, he seemed to score every game, but rarely seemed to be given a go

Some great recollections there. I was really excited about many of the young players that we had in the Venables era but apart from Nick Barmby (was he El Veg era?) none of them really fulfilled their potential.

4 or 5 of that academy group ended up being the mainstay of the Norwich team for much of the 90s. Ian Crook was the best of them, but there was Culverhouse, Bowen and Polston too. Is that the lot you mean?

Barmby was a cracking player, sad to say his wife wanted to move back up north ( where they were from) and she was quite a bit older then he was and ruled the roost.

More Andy Turner, Ian Hendon, Gerard McMahon if memory serves, which increasingly these days, it doesn't!
 
Gerry Brady - haha, loved him. Also thought Ziegler would do better than he did. Dean Marney started off so well. Gio dos Santos. Taraabt obviously.

Ziegler’s a good shout, he looked really bright when he first came on the scene.
