The ignorance of Gray in particular annoys me. As pointed out, his knowledge of European football was laughable. He was merely a mouthpiece for Sky though. The party line was "Best League In The World", repeat ad infinitum, until people believe it. The reason Sky so desperately wanted to use this ploy? Because at the time, they solely had the rights to the Premier League footage.
The comments they made in the videos are not just deplorable in the workplace, they are in bad taste in any surrounding. People justified it at the time saying it's no different from what you'd hear in the local pub. If that's the case, find a new local where the people in there aren't anachronistic cave dwellers. It says a lot that they have become martyrs for LAD culture.
Regardless of whether or not Gray had an iconic voice, I have never watched a football match on television for the commentator.
