General Transfer Discussion Thread

I would have no problem with that. Either he is in the first team picture and a sensible option or he's not. At some point young players in and around the team have to play. It looks to me as if all the signs suggest the Kane is ready for first team football, and I wold go so far as to say based on last season he is at least as good, if not a better, option than Soldado.

This. Kane's form towards the tail end of last season and his apparent growth as a footballer (especially his improved decision-making and technique) over the past half a year or so warrants a bit more faith in him this season. I'd be fine with Kane and Soldado double-teaming our forward position when Ade's out for the AfCoN (or Bony, if that rumor is true: I honestly don't think we'd keep both Bony and Ade in the same side): hell, I'd be happy for us not to buy a forward this summer, and for Kane to ease Ade out of the picture altogether and be our 'physical' front-man over the next couple of seasons as Ade gets older and less able to complete a match.

That may be so, but for him to be our ONLY striking option for a month? I guess injuries, suspensions and poor form don't come into it?

Why a month? Do we know it will take Ade that long to get back to match fitness? And why are you assuming that it will take us a month to complete Bony whereas Soldado is shipped out straight away?

Aberyid is referring to the African Cup of Nations.

If rumours are to be believed, apparently Kagawa and Hernandez are surplus to requirements at United. I'd have them in a heartbeat.

I thought Kagawa was fantastic at Dortmund, I think he would fit in really well under Poch too. Could be a very smart signing I think.

And how would they fit in? We have too many players as it is

This would be the issue. He's struggled to make a real impact from wider positions in the PL, although in theory I think he could do well cutting in from the left.

Would fit in brilliantly with work rate, quick combination play, interchanging positions, smart pressing though.

Maybe ... but Kane would still have to improve a whole lot before I felt comfortable with him leading the line as our only option ... actually really not comfortable with any one player being on their own in a position for any more than 1 or 2 games.

Doesn't the ANC take place from mid Jan until early Feb?.... That gives:

1. half a season for Kane to show (or not) that he is a viable striking option for those (maximum) of four games
2. Opportunity to buy/loan an alternative player if Kane isn't fit.

I don't think that we should base our transfer policy on a possible 4 game period half way through the season. Ade was our best CF last year and Soldado was our worst. If we have the chance to swap our worst CF from last season with a potential upgrade then I think we should take it ANC year or not.

with every day that passes, it looks increasingly like we're going to have to stay with just ben davies and a refreshed lamela. which might not be a bad thing....

We haven't done any business on deadline day in the last 3 windows.

Now we have a DoF again we certainly appear a bit more strategic about things.

Eriksen, Lamela and Chiriches were signed a day or two before last summers window closed. Thats close enough for me to make this deadline day an interesting one

Quite the opposite, I'd have thought.

It sounds as though we have quite a few irons in the fire. I'd be very surprised if there aren't at least two incoming before Jim White formally announces the transfer window to be closed.

We'll definitely sign a central defender - almost certainly Musacchio.

Let's not forget Dier was a first team player at Sporting also.
