Gareth Bale

ICYMI Jeans was quite candid about his underachieving in this interview... wonder how many of our nearly men from the peak of Pochettino’s tenure will have such regrets when they retire without a major trophy to look back upon...

Thanks for this. Whom of, the poch years, do you consider to be jenas-like? By that I mean with all the physical attributes but not the mentality? And please don’t include dele. IMO he’s too young to be I that category. JJ came to us as a more mature person. And I am most fond of JJ.

I think players need to appreciate that they got to play at the top level when there are hundreds of thousands of players each year who don’t make it as a pro footballer let alone a premier league player.

Eriksen, either he played at the top of his game for us or his style of play made it look like he left something back (I know he had the highest running stats etc). We'll probably never know but in the big games did he deliver or really own the midfield when he had the talent to do so.

I think Lloris, could he lead more, work on his kicking. What about Trippier who never seemed to work on his positioning or Lamela who has the skill set or going back even further players like Chadli I felt could have been so much better.

I don’t think there was anyone myself
I think it’s why peak Poch had players at their peak too. They were on the upward curve and he took them there.
There are some players who issues were injuries that shopped them reaching their very best level (wanyama, demebele, Dier possibly)

Yeah, when he’s in the right frame of mind Eriksen is one of the best attacking midfielders in Europe but (unlike Modric) he clearly looked under par during his final months at Spurs and instead of using the CL final as a showcase of his match winning ability (like Eden Hazard did in EL final) he was as subdued as everyone else that evening.

I might be being a tad harsh but Son’s continued streakiness also frustrates, as he seems to have a purple patch every season where he scores worldies every week but then will go a couple of months when he barely contributes; it’s then that we can fully appreciate what a truly world class forward we have in Kane and what a big miss it was that he was so clearly lacking match sharpness in the biggest match of his career.

Bale's agent is even coming to terms that Gareth's career is coming to an end at 31.

You'd of thought that with all the sport science available to athletes today, Bale could easily offer something into his mid thirties if he was motivated to do so. It's all going to end with him going back to Madrid for a contract pay off in a few months and a tarnished legacy.

Weird comments weren't they?!? I guess some people have drive and some don't

Definitely. Though personally I suspect Bale’s situation isn’t all down just to a lack of drive. I wonder if he’s also the kind of character who needs to feel appreciated, and if he feels like he’s not being appreciated then he reacts in this sort of way as a defence mechanism. Like ‘you need me more than I need you’. Which, in the case of Spurs / Mourinho, is probably true sadly.

Depends .. it could be he just no longer mentally has it, or it could be his body is just done and he's now accepting it

Or could it be that he needs an arm around the shoulder and the encouragement to push through worries about his fitness? Redknapp has often spoken of his relative softness when it comes to physical football, and perhaps now he has developed a fear of pushing on for fear of tearing hamstrings, etc. A good sports psych and a warm manager might well help. He still has the skill and a level of fitness which could see a central 10 spot work supremely IMO.

At age 31? Why so many excuses for him?
