Gareth Bale

didn't we lose 13 in a row when we first signed him or something stupid, when Harry was trying to swap him with Forest for some balls and bibs?
We did have a horrendous record with him when he signed but he still played really well in a lot of those games
I was at Fulham away (I think it was his debut) and he was brilliant... we drew 3 all (he scored) when kamara I think scored an overhead kick
We absolutely battered them and conceded 3 goals and none came from bales side... but it was the start of that record

I was at the game immediately following that one, at home to Arse when he scored an impressive fk to put us ahead early on. He played left mid and I still vividly recall being impressed by his skill, strength and pace down the left flank. Even at that early stage - he was still only 18 - his ability to take on and beat opponents and put a decent cross in stood out.

Cannot say I remember much else from that game except that he was replaced midway through the second half shortly after the Arse had equalised. We went on to lose 1-3.

H'mm, cannot help thinking, Jenas can talk. Not too many games he left his all on the pitch either.

Maybe it was because at 0-3 down the pressure was completely off, but at last Bale showed against City one or two exciting glimpses of what he can still do.

If there was ever a time for Mourinho to take a risk by giving both Bale and Dele a decent run, you'd think this must surely be it? We are ninth in the table with Lamela and Moura unable to find a pass, Sissoko and Winks offering nothing going forward, Vinicius flat and both GLC and Reggie injured.

Now more than ever we need to increase our chances of scoring to counterbalance our error-prone defence.

It doesn't work that way mate, you play Bale and Dele in the same side and the opposition will absolutely overrun us.

Dele shows nothing, Bale has had glimpses, I'd give him the Europa game, full 90, I'd give 20-30 minutes in the PL
But you could also make the argument Vinicius is more deserving of getting a run (he pretty much never plays with first team)

We'll see.

I thought exactly the same, most of Jenas career I felt like he had at least another gear available. Also when he was 31 he was a strolling around for QPR in the final season of his career.
I don’t disagree Bale has been a big disappointment but I’m not sure Jenas is the one to question his application.

Of all the players i have watched over the decades Jenas is up there with those that have really disappointed me, all the talent to be a really good player but very rarely showed it. Shame really.

Difficult to really say what the problem was, lack of self confidence is one them but off the pitch i would not say he was a wallflower having met him a few times.
Clubs he was at, or Managers he had... or that bit more between the ears
Kane is the epitome of a player who has worked to get better and jenas struck me as someone who was happy with his lot
I wonder if backgrounds come into play to drive that hunger. Those who come through some kind of negativity seem to rise more as players, but I don’t know much about jenas background TBF. Everything seemed easy to him I guess

Good point, anyone who watched Kane during his loan spells would have probably never guessed he would have turned out to be world class. He ( along with help from the coaches) has mentally turned himself into the player he has become. Jenas is the opposite i guess.

You could make that argument in terms of effort, but this is about talent and maximising what you have. He needs to get a tune from these two and fast because they're here and we need them. Is is fair on him? Did he want Bale? Did he want Dele gone? I don't know. But here they are, so get to work. Don't let this be like every other club where he proves he has issues with precocious talent. Didn't he bomb out DeBruyne, Salah and Lukaku at Chelski? Still, let's hope he can find a warm paternal air and inject some confidence into out skill divas...if he can get Bale in the hole with Ndombele deeper and Bergwijn/Son, we might yet see the return of Bale.
