I can definitely see that point of view. I just think that's one of several ways.
Defending against City is tough even in good conditions. To give three players more limited defensive responsibility, leaving a back four and three midfielders to do the brunt work will be a massive ask. It's a plan that can backfire just as easily as not starting Bale imo.
Our would also probably necessitate dropping quality for work rate in deeper areas, which will make it more difficult to get the best out of our attacking players.
I'll be happy enough to see Bale start, but I think it will be a gamble and I don't think it's an obvious decision.
If we were going to try a low block with a solid defensive structure (haha) and a clinical counter attack (again haha) we should have kept Jose on for this game. Let's show balls, let's play to our strengths which is three arguably world class forwards.
Let them worry about us as well, let us utilise our strengths rather than try to compensate for our weaknesses.
If we are to lose, let's lose fighting hard and on the front foot.
