Gareth Bale

Re: Gareth Bale

Tottenham are confident Gareth Bale will commit his future to the club next month - by signing a stunning new deal that will pay him £170,000-a-week.

Bale, the £60million-rated new triple Player of the Year, remains in the sights of Real Madrid, while new Manchester United boss David Moyes is also tipped to enter the bidding this summer.

But Bale, already under contract at the White Hart Lane club until 2016, is expected to add another year to that deal AND have his wages almost doubled by chairman Daniel Levy.

Spurs’ hopes of competing in the Champions League next season will be decided on Sunday in the campaign's final set of matches.

They will finish in the top four if they beat visitors Sunderland and Arsenal fail to take all three points at Saudi Sportswashing Machine.

Bale’s representatives are set to sit down with the club early next month, but envisage few problems.

The commitment of the Welsh wideman, who has scored 25 goals in all competitions, is set to provide a massive boost for the club in terms of attracting other top players

Re: Gareth Bale

Its not just Daniel, there is a deal involving outside of the club businessmen to make this happen, this offer has been made although I was told that the deal was £135k a week.

Who makes the deal with businessmen outside of the club though?

Pretty sure that would be Levy.

I think there was some mention of Under Armour sponsoring the additonal weekly wages... UA want him to stay at Spurs too so they can build their campaigns around him and Spurs

Re: Gareth Bale

Bale would also be far more effective - I'm not big on stats but isn't he a low 'creator' in terms of assists etc?

Assists aren't a great stat as it relies on two players rather than just the one you're looking at. Bale has created 73 chances this season which is the highest of any Spurs player. For comparison RVP has 70, Rooney 49, Mata 91, Hazard 65, Cazorla 94, Walcott 35, Silva 101, Tevez 61, Nasri 51, Suarez 89.

The big question would be how many chances were created whilst playing out wide and how many were playing as the AM.

Re: Gareth Bale

Don't know how to find that but funnily enough he has 4 assists in 12 games playing as a #10 and 4 in 26 playing on the left.

Premier League awards for Sir Alex Ferguson and Gareth Bale
May 17, 2013 3:55pm

Sir Alex Ferguson has been named as Barclays Manager of the Year and Gareth Bale is Player of the Year.

News of the prestigious award came just hours after Ferguson gave the final pre-match news conference of his extraordinary career.

The Manchester United boss has been named Manager of the Season on a record 11 occasions, first taking the honour when the Premier League was created back in season 1992/93.

Ferguson, who has lifted 38 trophies during his 26-year reign at Old Trafford, has won the Premier League title on 13 occasions and will take charge of his 1,500th game for United on Sunday.

Bale, who has scored 19 goals in 29 Premier League appearances this season, becomes the first Tottenham player and the first Welshman to be named Player of the Year.

It is the Wales international's fourth individual award of a stellar season, adding it to the PFA Player and Young Player of the Year gongs and the Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year.

Bale's fine form this season has fuelled speculation of a possible move away from White Hart Lane in the summer, but Andre Villas-Boas is confident of keeping hold of him.

"I'm not sure (about whether Bale is close to signing a new deal), our interest is for the player to continue here and I've made that very clear," said Villas-Boas.

"Whatever is happening, the idea is for the player to be here next season.

"I have said this numerous times. We are pretty confident we will be able to keep him."

Bale will hope to end his season on a high and help Tottenham qualify for the UEFA Champions League, although even a victory over Sunderland will not be enough if Arsenal beat Saudi Sportswashing Machine.

Didn't know PL gives such award. It seems this award is being given since PL started in 1993. Bale is the first ever Spurs and Wales player to win it. Well done Bale for winning yet another award, his 4th award this season : PFA POTY, YPOTY, FWA POTY and now this. Only left the PFA Fans Player Of The Year award for him to complete the clean sweep of the awards. Ofcourse there is also the Spurs Fans Player Of The Year award which he will almost certainly win.

But for all the awards Bale win, it will be anti-climax if we don't have anything to show for it at the end of the season. Hope we will make it to CL, somehow.

Re: Gareth Bale

Me too obviously.

But in terms of squad development are we at the stage now where actually keeping Bale will entice better players to the club regardless of CL?

If Bale signs a new deal on a lot more money (taking us in line with wages of other top class players) then I can imagine they'll be quite a few players would look at that and think, I'd love to play with him and they'll pay me what I want as well.

I think it is very crucial for us to keep Bale if we want to progress. Regardless of how much money other clubs offer for him, we should not sell him unless he demands to leave. We really cannot replace a player of his quality because there are not many players like him in world football now. I think you can count with 1 hand the number of players who are better than him now. Also, if we let him go, that will discourage other players froml from joining us and demotivate our current players.
