United weren't in a relegation scrap or in the disarray we were in when they employed Carrick.

It's more akin to when Saudi Sportswashing Machine appointed Shearer.

They weren't much different to where we were 2 months ago, it's just been sliding doors since then.

Mason's won the EL as assistant and managed an FA cup final, so he does have objective pedigree, without the insights we have about his well-regarded personality/reputation.

Agreed. Mason has been fine in his two spells. Picked up some decent results. But we’re in a relegation fight. This needs experience. The situation is too big for Mason, the same way the job is too big for Frank.

Surely no job is too big for a manger so highly regarded by ENIC that they sacked a serial trophy winner on the eve of a cup final because they thought he was the man to stop Guardiola's (at the time) all conquering €iteh juggernaut!

Why are you so insistent that Mason comes back? Are you not in the slightest bit alarmed by the job he did at West Brom? This isn’t an appointment we can take lightly or afford to get wrong. Simply appointing someone for sentimental reasons rather than merit could cost the club hundreds of millions of pounds and cause reputational damage if we get it wrong.

Because he's done it well twice before - after Mourinho and after Conte. He's also the ideal bridge to Poch, as a disciple of style.

And Carrick got sacked by Middlesbrough recently, but in the last fortnight has earned the same number of points as we need to survive.

Completely different situation now. Mason took over previously when we were around 6th-10th, not when we were hovering above the relegation zone. And he’s been given a chance at a championship club but utterly flopped. WBA are a team that expect to be challenging for promotion every season, not languishing near the bottom 6.
