Financial Fair Play

Salary caps will only work if co-ordinated between the big leagues

Uefa are bringing it in. The leagues will follow. The biggest teams in each league aren't going to be subjected to a salary cap while the rest of the league isn't.

Yes. Just look at rugby - the French salary cap is about 75% higher than in England and therefore their squads have far greater depth and quality meaning that they outperform English clubs in European competition

I dont see why the PL would accept a salary cap either. Today the PL is the richest league in the world; why would the PL accept something which risks putting it on a par, or closer to a par, with other leagues? The adage about turkeys and christmas springs to mind

They don't mean a salary cap, which by its very definition would only affect the big clubs. This is a drawbridge tax to protect the rich clubs from competition and themselves (hello Barcelona).

At a Premier League Shareholders’ meeting today clubs agreed to prioritise the swift development and implementation of a new League-wide financial system.

This will provide certainty for clubs in relation to their future financial plans and will ensure the Premier League is able to retain its existing world-leading investment to all levels of the game.

Alongside this, Premier League clubs also re-confirmed their commitment to securing a sustainably funded financial agreement with the EFL, subject to the new financial system being formally approved by clubs.

The League and clubs also reaffirmed their ongoing and longstanding commitment to the wider game which includes £1.6billion distributed to all levels of football across the current three-year cycle.

The Premier League’s significant funding contributions cover all EFL clubs and National League clubs, as well as women and girls’ football, and the grassroots of the game.

Another day another loophole revealed.

Chelsea spends we know about - fair enough, not so much the other end of that table. How is that viable? I guess this sort of nonsense is the basis of the charges they face.

Would not surprise me if City book in 50 £million profit for exporting unsold pies back to the Middle East.
They have sponsorship from a company that doesn’t trade

Found these interesting. Out of date now. But gives an idea of where things stand.

There was talk a while ago (Think it was when they had a quiet Jan window) that Villa went a bit too balls out and might need to sell a few this summer and reign it in a bit now

They need to cut their wages or find permanent increases to turnover. No team can bank on cl football (maybe city till their case is heard).
100%. More they need it next season to give themselves some breathing room to sort things out. If they don't get it they will have to sell a number of players and may have to offload some even with CL.

The problem most clubs have got (sans us)..is this balancing act has got real very quickly.

You could still be punting away last season, the season before thinking 'yeah, all we be alright' but the points deductions dished out so far have been a flashing blue light.

Its a debatable gravy train as it is ...half decent players cost £50m ... probably similar to UEFA income for a good year in the CL. Yes you'll probably get a bit more from your sponsors and maybe better deals when you renew those sponsorships but you're gonna need more than one player plus run the risk that you just might not qualify given the strength of your league.

Of course, you (your club) has to aspire, has to look upwards but breaking thru those ceilings is fraught with risk. The margins are fine and misteps can see something promising fall apart rapidly.

Seriously hoping this is gonads. Basically fining clubs for overspending. Why just not award city and Saudi Sportswashing Machine the next 10 league titles. Every other club just holding out their begging bowls.

Will destroy football in a host of ways.

Also the article is talking brick. The uefa rules for their new psr has points deductions as possible punishments (new format of the cl to come in next season).

Yes, thought PL was going to get in line more or less with uefa.

They are going to change to a percentage of revenue. In line with uefa. Which makes sense. Nobody knows who's going to qualify so why have 2 different set of rules to abide to?

It's the punishment being financial rather than points deduction i think is gonads. It gives clubs with unlimited wealth to do what they want and just pay the fine. It's not a punishment.

The mail article is gonads. There are enough owners in the prem that treat it as a business rather than a money pit. That won't vote for it.
