Fernando Llorente

maybe im a little off but i don't really see the real top level clubs being in for him - ourselves and Arsenal are about the level that will be in for him, therefore meaning the wages he can realistically demand will be within our structure

although tbh Im not quite in the Llorente is the answer to our prayers camp

Tottenham have been cut to 8/1 at #SkyBet to sign Fernando Llorente in January with the Spaniard set to leave Athletic Bilbao. #THFC

The Italian champions are to hold talks with the 27-year-old Spain striker, who has scored 115 goals in 317 appearances over nine seasons for the Basque club.

"Juventus informed Athletic that they will begin negotiations with the player to incorporate him into their squad," Bilbao said in a statement.
His contract expires on 30 June and he has rejected the offer of a new deal.
Both Liverpool and Arsenal have been linked with the forward.

Llorente scored in both legs of the Europa League last-16 tie against Manchester United and helped Bilbao reach the final of the competition with a goal in the second leg of the semi-final tie against Sporting Lisbon.
Llorente, who is no longer considered a first-choice striker with the La Liga club, was involved in a training ground disagreement with Bilbao coach Marcelo Bielsa in October.

He has also suffered from jeers from his own fans this season following his decision to leave the club.
The 6ft 4in striker was in Spain's squad for Euro 2012, but did not feature during the tournament as the Spaniards won the title.

I can't see us signing any striker in January.

We're a top 4 club nowadays, we should be able to get someone better than Adebayor and Defoe.

Michu, Patinkle Cisse, Shane Long, Trevor Francis, Berbatov, Pogrebnyak, basically anyone in the league... hell Danny Graham, Danny Wellbeck, Sturridge... we need to get someone better than Adebayor pronto.

no, no, i agree with you. I just dont think we'll get someone in sadly.

Reminds me of the "surely Harry Kane and Colibaly can't be any worse than Pav/Defoe" claims.

Most PL sides would be delighted with Ade and Defoe, most the strikers you list there are no better than them. fudge me, Danny Graham isn't getting enough games at Swansea and might be leaving, another top 4 contender just sold fudging Sturridge. Patinkle Cisse has 4 goals in 18 starts this season, Ade has 2 in 8, never mind Defoe. Pog has a massive 4 in 13 for Reading. Michu looks decent and was a real bargain at that price, still not convinced he's top 4 material. I'm sure both Defoe and Ade would be stand out players at Reading.

Edit: And another of the "zomg, why didn't we sign him, we suck" strikers - Nikica Jelavic so far has 6 in 20. Looks a decent player too, but hardly the kind of strike rate to get overly impressed by.

Overreaction to Adebayor is staggering on here. He is a player who did well at the scum when they were easily qualifying for CL year in year out. His spell at City wasn't fantastic, but then he was considered good enough to play for Madrid by Mourinho and then we saw how good he can be for us last season. Yes it would be fantastic to have Falcao playing for us but it's just not always possible to land a special player like that. Adebayor is a top level player. Defoe is a very able striker. We have two very good strikers/forwards at the club.

Yes they can be improved upon. But there's not as many as people think that would do a better job for a long period.

Perhaps you are confusing Adebayor at his peak - his hold-up play, his pace, skill, finishing - with that fella lumbering around up front this season, trying not to fall asleep?

On paper Adebayor is Lionel Messi sitting on Aguero's shoulders - in reality Danny Graham would offer more goal threat as he actually gets into the right positions AND he tries hard.

Yep he's suddenly lost his ability to do all that in the summer.

Article from Nick Harris. It would be great if it were true (I.e the Spurs link)!

The Athletic Bilbao striker had looked close to agreeing a move to Juventus, but there are indications the Italian club are losing patience with the deal, and Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal could be ready to pounce.

Fernando Llorente was always likely to be one of the big targets of the transfer window, so when it seemed certain that he had agreed a move to Juventus barely days into January, there were several clubs who were no doubt left disappointed by the decision.

However there might be a small chance that the Spanish striker is about to become available once again, as despite being in negotiations for the past couple of weeks, Juventus have yet to finalise a deal for the striker. The next few days will be vital to the success of that deal, with reports from Italy suggesting that the Serie A champions have made a final take-it-or-leave-it £3 million offer to Bilbao.

No one knows exactly what Bilbao are holding out for, as Llorente can leave on a free in the summer and has had little impact on the pitch for them this season, but they are making negotiations difficult for Juventus. With this in mind, Juventus have stepped up their pursuit of other targets, perhaps confident they could then sign Llorente in the summer anyway.

Didier Drogba, CIro Immobile and Lisandro Lopez have both been consistently linked with a move to Turin, and Juventus certainly need to strengthen their attack if they are to defend their Serie A title and progress in the later stages of the Champions League. If the Llorente deal looks impossible, they will need to have time to work on these other transfers, and this might be why they are prepared to pull out of negotiations with Bilbao for now.

If they do withdraw from the deal, then there will be plenty of teams prepared to take their place in trying to sign Llorente. The Spanish striker has been linked with Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur for some years now, and they would be likely to try and pick up a bargain this January.

Even at twice the reported price Juventus have offered, Llorente would be a steal compared with the £27 million moves he has been linked with in the past.

Although he is available on a free in the summer, you would expect that some teams would be prepared to pay a fee now to ensure they get their man, and if Juventus really are prepared to walk away from the deal, then Llorente could be the subject of the bidding war that was expected this January.

WALOB, Juventus need just deal with the player, like we did with Holtby, then let his club come to you because they know you are the only option to deal with. Any team wishing to get Llorente really only needs to deal with the player not the club. Purchasing team shouldn't care about taking in Jan TBH

At a guess the problem is more doing a deal with Llorente than with Bilbao.

but why are you basing your entire opinion of ade based on a couple of months of football?

Llorente is in "Advanced talks" with Juve and a deal should be done in the next couple of days.

Too late to hijack this one? A big lump like him would have been great upfront today. And he's also fresh having hardly played.

I believe so, but would love to be proved wrong. A class player that would do great in the premier league.

He's been in negotiations with Juventus for weeks. Both parts just trying to hold out for a better deal, but if they want him now they have to move.

Would love this guy at THFC. He is an EPL player. Don't know how or if it would work squad wise.
