Do you not see the sub-plot between the 90s and now though?
What has happened over the decades is that the officiating has changed so much, and the dark arts are winning over football. Referees don't use the laws of the game anymore. They don't even make players come over to them and give them a talking down. They let all the infringements go and we're now seeing all the centre midfield maestros have to move out to the wide areas because you just can't do what Gerrard did back in the day. The managers plan all of their tactics based on what can be got away with and train their players that way all the way down to kids football.
The product is now dull as ditchwater. You don't even get the pundits talking about the skills in the game anymore. They're just talking about contentious decisions and VAR. I find it thoroughly boring if I'm honest. You get the odd piece of magic like Lamela's goal this week, but most of it is just a polluted down product. The last thing is that the companies like Sky think they are a bigger product than the actual 22 players, 2 goalposts and ball. They've lost the plot in this area.
FIFA, UEFA, PL etc have a lot to answer for. I'm not even including The FA as they have no empowerment left anyway as the broadcasting companies only work with the other organisations.
I think there are too many layers and too many "players", everyone seemingly got their hand in the game and its getting worse, thats from governance to access to players and social media IMO.
We have our rants and raves on here and this is a medium of social media, but twitter and YT have all but killed off the last enthusiasm I have for views and debate.
This may sound odd but for me it started when people took notice of people like DT at AFTV who called Wenger a fraud and his views almost became more popular with an audience than what the actual manager of their team had achieved for their club and I say back and thought "How". Then you move forward to 2025 it works out that he kidnapped and beat up his ex GF and rather than people focus on that they still listen to his extremism of "he is sh1t and he is a cnu7". Its just mind boggling access in the game I love thats killed it to an extent IMO.
There are Spurs YT "celebs" like Savva, Perchy and some fella called Stel as examples who have been accused and proven to have either flashed, assaulted or sent online abuse to women and people are lapping up their bile the spill and infest into the fanbase about the club. I just can't get my head round it all.
Paul O'Keefe seemingly having the fanbase on strings, he is a DJ who hustles a few Non League players about and is clearly not as ITK as he makes out, but people worship him and he gets away with making claims so thousands about people like Lange, with no basis other than he is bitter not being closer to the game like Lange and for the fact he works in silence and therefore he can't claim to have known about people like Ode and Tel u-turn. If O'Keefe was as good as he makes himself sound he wouldn't be living in a bedsit and DJing for money at weekend. And that's not to knock him but let's not lie about your influence in the game at the expense of others actually working at the top level
Its a world and game of extremes.....even on here people feel the right to claim "Levy is a cancer" I mean fcuk me, what world are we in where people feel they can say crap like that about a bloke who has built us up but also made mistakes.........like literally everyone on this forum bar Scara in his mind (joke Scara).
Football should have always been a break from the norm and an adventure when it came about, now its been hijacked by people and it just feels an extreme extension of life and politics.
Sorry for the rant and the off shoots into other areas, but it encapsulates how I feel about it all.
