Emmanuel Adebayor - Officially gone \o/

Re: Official - Adebayor

Can you find the quotes where Ade says he has discussed it with the manager and was told he wanted him to stay? I don't remember that happening?

I remember Ade saying he is with the reserves to regain his 'sense of goal', but noting that would suggest the 'another mixed message' stick can be used to beat AVB with on this occasion.

I know how AS feels now always equalising people on Harry, just don't want to let any disservice slide on to AVB.

See the bit where he says he decided, with the MANAGER, to stay.

Re: Official - Adebayor

Sounds like he refers to 'manager' as his agent and 'coach' as AVB.

And even if he isn't (but I think he is) it doesn't sound like AVB has sent him a mixed message, it just says that AVB told him he wasn't ready for the pro group yet.

Don't worry; at least Pirate55 is consistent: AVB is responsible for EVERYTHING that didn't go well at Spurs between 1st July 2012 and 16th December 2013.
Anything that did go well (Bale's rise to World-class labelling, team resilience post-Everton December collapse etc) that was in spite of AVB.

You got that? Good

Re: Official - Adebayor

We did try to sell Adebayor and rightly so after last season's showings, but once it was obvious that there was no takers or he didn't want to go then AVB should have used him more, even on the bench, not saying he had to start him because he saw Soldado as the main man. I think unless he has a great season for us then we should try to move him on, but we need him until the end of the season. But if push came to shove I'd keep him and get rid of Defoe.

Absolutely appalling decision by Levy to not buy another striker in last Jan's window, loads of us said it would come back to bite us and it did.

I think there's a very very real variable at play here. I mentioned it before, but will repeat. Bits of it are speculative I will grant you, but some is not. Here goes…

AVB believed, as did the entire club, that Bale was staying for one more year. Words were given. Then, right as the side flies out to Hong Kong, Madrid squeeze Barnett and Barnett squeezes us. AVB hears about this and is obviously ****ed off (let me further add that until that moment, had someone offered 5 or 6 million for Townsend it would've been accepted). Suddenly, with Madrid-Bale forcing the move, AVB is left desperately re-evaluating his plans and strategies. Ade suffers the unfortunate family tragedy, and AVB gives him some time but does not think the player will take too long away because AVB perhaps feels that the player can see that 'the team' must work harder together now to overcome this huge impending loss. Except that it cannot work like that for Ade, given who he is and his status in the family. Neither party communicates clearly. AVB sees it as a massive '**** you' and immediately makes his mind up…

I believe AVB was wronged in some senses, and WAS wrong in a few others.

If AVB had told him categorically that he had no future at Tottenham and that he wouldn't play him as long as he was manager, do you really believe he would have said this ?

Just like you ( and others) still want to paint AVB as some kind of football coaching genius, I will continue to put the other side of the picture.

Was he a genius - no. Was he completely incompetent - no. The truth lies somewhere in the middle.

Was he the right man for us? - I don't think so. His style of play and tactics were never going to endear him to the Spurs fans. He would have only been tolerated if this brought with it success. Some believe it would, fair enough, I personally don't think it would have done. His mishandling of Ade for me just highlighted his shortcomings.

A much more balanced view.

Absolutely correct. Many of us were crying out for one. Whether it was Levy or AVB I am not sure. I recall AVB saying that he was happy with his striking options - Ade , Defoe, Dempsey and Bale. Was he just towing the party line or did he really believe this?

Yep. Because admitting that he chose to stay and not play for more money than to go and play for less would reduce his future earning potential.

I do not paint him as some kind of coaching genius; I paint him as somebody who should have been given more time and certainly not sacked only for us to give the job to a total novice; If we were going to sack hi at that point that should not have been at a time when supposed successors were not available.

I believe AVB with all his shortcomings that you beat him about will prove himself t be FAR BETTER than Sherwood. If Sherwood gets us into the top 4 I will of course hold my hands up; but if we get toked at Old Trafford and the Emirates in upcoming games I wont be surprised.

Adebayor's handling was annoying to me as well (I felt he could have greatly helped our attack) but I'm sure you were one of the major Ade-bashers last spring, so you saying now that you blame AVB for thinking about Ade in the same way you did makes me laugh and shows that you will use whatever stick you can to bash AVB with. At least Steff has been consistent in his views on Ade what he brought/can bring to the team.
I wonder what you will think of Sherwood if he falls out with Ade this season post January transfer window especially if we haven't brought in another striker.

I have to agree that not buying a striker last January was perhaps the beginning of the end not just for AVB in the long un, but also perhaps put the nil in the coffin for us to miss out on 4th and then the sale of Bale.

I also would like to know whether AVB honesty thought we had enough striking options or whether he was towing the party line. It sounded ridiculous at the time.

Steff do you see any reason for AVB to include Ade in the squad against City and play him in that game other than some internal power struggle, somewhat infantile "see, I played him and it didn't work" attempt by including him in arguably the toughest game of the season?

Could the same be asked about Lamela and his inclusion?

He was given a year and a half and ( for me ) there were no signs of any improvement. In fact, as I laid out in the AVB thread, there were more signs of regression than improvement. Funny, how you have written off Sherwood after two games in charge, or did you perhaps make up your mind beforehand on the basis if no evidence whatsoever. Strange dichotomy of views n'est pas?

Regarding Ade, I have been the model of consistency. I loved the Mk1 Ade, I deplored the Mk 2 Ade. I actually was the first to use this terminology. Was it not a fact that Mk1 Ade played under Harry and Mk2 played under AVB? Can you not perhaps recognise the difference between the two?

Now both you and BE are making AVB out to be some petulant individual who included Ade and Lamela in the Emirates Marketing Project away game for no other reason but to try and prove some kind of deluded point. Yet you still feel he was worth giving more time to as the coach to lead us to the promised land!

From my point of view I don't try and paint AVB out as a genius, I only ask that he is represented fairly. I don't try and hold AVB up and in return negate Sherwood - I see Sherwood's good points too but some of the stuff about AVB that gets written is quite infuriating.

Re: Official - Adebayor

Ade is the most important person in his family and is currently the most important player at Spurs.

I don't care about what has happened or AVB. I want continued success for Spurs and Ade.

If this were true, you would have been able to see AVBs weaknesses too. Instead you have come across on here as a one man crusade to point out his virtues and ( to some of us) his hidden talents as a master tactician/coach. I am glad to see, at last, you too are adopting a more equivocal position.

I am also pleased to see that you haven't pre- judged TS ( unlike some others I could mention!). Lets give him a fair crack of the whip and hope for the best for the team.
