Djed Spence

I think Spence could be a future winger. He has so much confidence, happy to run at the opposition defenders and take them on. And can help out defensively.

He is a wing back... we bought him as a wing back for Conte's formation and he remains primarily a wing back. His attributes - speed, stamina and decent one on one ability, are perfect for the wingback role.

He will be outstanding in a team that plays 5 at the back....

From what I've read, I don't think RDZ wants a first 11 and then back up cover approach. He wants at least two quality equal players for each position fighting it out for spots in the team, and also to cover injuries.

The other thing is that we can probably write off what team he selected for the 5 game run-in as a lot of that team/squad will be sold off, and he's looking to build a completely new team and squad in preseason. Even the style of play will probably be a bit more different with more risk and more power and intensity trained and drilled in over preseason.

I doubt anyone who was starting the last five games will be guaranteed first 11 for the season.

Personally I think he will rotate in halfs (or 60 mins) for the first few games for intensity. Giving all of them starts between the two fullback positions, especially as Porro and Spence have played long into the world cup.

The other thing about Djed is profile and confidence stature. He at the stage where he's been elevated as household name. Which can make like a top class player at the level above premier league standard. This is where you see players elevate their game. Also commercially he's at the ready to explode stage. For Tottenham that's massive. Because now non-football fans are going to be interested in our Djed.

I'm not even exaggerating when I say that he could easily end up at Real Madrid with Bellingham very quickly.

We really need to tie him down, as if we want to be a top top club we need players like these, especially the ones we helped create.

With this World Cup story, he's definitely moved way ahead of Udogie in terms of stature as the best left back at Spurs. He needed this world cup more than anyone to take him to the next step in footballer development (actually Porro's the same, especially if he wins the world cup).
But I think commercially Djed has a higher ceiling, like a Bellingham or Beckham, because his story or troubles, morality, religion, family, adversity and redemption, as well as good-looks and (women are going crazy on social media about Djed Spence at the moment).

The World Cup for Djed could turn out to be, what the UCL matches became for Bale. Elevation to higher level of confidence.

To have Porro and Spence right now, at this time makes Spurs more high profile, and a ball hasn't even been kicked. Selling Spence right now could show us as small club mentality, selling your best players (even though no one really knows who are best players are right now).

This season, under RDZ we need to go into every game like we are the biggest and baddest and most exciting club in the Premiership. I think Chelsea are going to try to do just that as well.

Any excuse really needed.

They have done a cracking job this far in the market and are backing the manager. Get over it, they will sell players that the manager has seen first hand and knows his tactics.
huh you really believe this lot is impervious to mistakes ?

If he makes the left back in the team of the WC, and we still sell him to Everton for £30 million then we are the world's biggest mugs. Based on the world cup. Before this tourno you could have made a case. I strongly feel now you got to be buzzing we have him and if you don't then there is an irrational issue. Just my view.

What would you sell him for?

I get people are getting all romantic about the spending and the change and TBH, thats cool, its part of the game and romance of football, but equally some fans are also allowed to look at it and think, well Spence is very good, he has had an exceptional summer, why not keep him. I know its easy to give it the whole "well its not what RDZ might want" but we can still question the logic behind it too.

Given the market, given being pushed, you would want close to if not in excess of 45/50m

I don't really see the logic of selling when we will need to buy another RB for Porro's competition. I'm also not so sure why everyone is convinced he won't get any minutes at RB this season? Competition is good but also they offer quite different things so having different options for different situations is a good thing.
