Dele Alli

Didn't think he was as bad as some claimed yesterday, but it highlights a key issue with Alli.

He had a couple of very threatening runs where fine margins kept him out. He can be a real threat with his running and quality on the final third and do a solid job defensively.

Does very little in the middle third in moving us up the pitch through pressure though. So we need others to do that job better to accommodate him and really get the benefits he brings.

Neither him or Son are particularly good at making the ball stick high up the pitch when receiving it if there isn't immediate space to be exploited. That leaves Kane with too much to do. Lucas brings that ball sticking ability.

Only way around that is more quality on the ball deeper. Romero back will help somewhat. Fresh wing backs helps. But can't get away from the midfield balance under these circumstances.

What kept him out was awful passes to him

If the likes of Dele and Ndombele go, it’ll feel like we’re letting Conte shape the squad in his image rather than forcing him to rekindle past glories for players who have had more than enough chances.

He did do well v Pool but then he played a week later and was poor again, think Morecombe? Just too inconsistent nowadays, not sure where he fits in. Best for all parties if he moves on, think Saudi Sportswashing Machine is a good move for him actually.

He was noticeably absent from all the mad celebrations on Wednesday from what I could see from all the footage, despite being on the bench.

There was talk in the week of him wanting to go to Saudi Sportswashing Machine, although that could just be because of the Trippier link and someone turning it into a rumour.

I like dele a lot and still think he can turn it around. But if Conte wants to sell him we have to trust that.

He in the last of these clips, just sauntering across the pitch towards the wild celebrations with players and the fans. No passion.
 
Thing is with Ali. If he get the little bit of bite back into his game and keeps the rest simple he will be an outstanding box to box midfielder. I know that’s not where he excelled previously but with his engine and all round game if he just cut out the cute stuff and concentrated on the fundamentals which he does well he would be excellent again.

I was about to say the same. Watching the legendary Conte cam, there was shots of all the subs leaping up and around the technical area - except for Dele. Then there was another video of after the game everyone running to the away fans celebrating, and then far away was Dele just ambling along well behind everyone else towards the rest of the group.

He has checked out and is done here. I just hope he has not checked out of the sport altogether, as it would be such a shame for someone with such ability and who gave us some damn fine memories for three seasons or so…..
 
Lots of reports linking him with a loan to Saudi Sportswashing Machine this morning. Think that would suit everyone if we get a decent loan fee for him. If they stay up they can buy him.
 
It’s a shame what’s happened to Dele as he seemed to have the World at his feet a few years ago. I hope he can find form in future and get back to the player that he was, even if sadly it looks like being a future spent elsewhere.
 
Let him be what he want on his own time. (But return your salary to the club if you're not trying to play football, Dele)

Could not agree more, a few of us have been saying for a while now that we have a lot of players who are going through the motions/downed tools etc and without a doubt he is one of them.
 
Is there a scenario where Alli goes on loan there, is absolutely brilliant, but heroically fails to help them avoid relegation. And we get him back with confidence and reputation restored, to either utilise or sell? That would be ideal wouldn't it - be great, but just not enough to save the human rights abusers.
