He should have started instead of Eriksen today
Only question for me would be his fitness levels
But he himself hasn't been playing well. I kind of feel we are in this circle where Eriksen plays brick and we say Lamela should have started. Lamela is ineffective and we say Deli should have started. Deli starts and we say someone else should have. None of them are performing to the required level. He should have started instead of Eriksen today

I'll be frank I don't really rate Lamela or Deli that highly. Deli more so than Lamela but neither is good enough in my eyes to be this teams primary creator in the centre. Now accepting that we have added Ndombele potentially all passing creativity will now not have to come from the Eriksen position. Assuming that works than maybe Deli can play the role applying the finishing touch, but I'm unconvinced he has the game for it. At his best he was running on to things, occasional interesting link play but I would say that playing the cute pass is something he's especially good at imo.Painful rebuild, remember?
We need to be putting in foundations for the future. Even if Alli is out of form, he needs the faith shown in him. The chance to play himself into form, and show what he can do in exactly the sort of position Eriksen (brick all season) was in.
And, to be honest, even completely off form I dont think he would have done any worse - but the message sent playing him would have been priceless.
I really liked Lamela in that role against Leicester, would have been happy to see him there too. And Id argue, against Leicester, he was certainly of the required level.

There is a logic with your pov that I can understand and respect. Maybe going with Deli would be the correct option I genuinely don't know. I hope I'm wrong and he can excel in the way we need him too. Maybe the responsibility of being the chief creator in the final third will bring the best out of him [emoji2379]I suspect we simply disagree around Alli, and thats unlikely to reconcile between us.
I think he is a top talent, and I think playing him behind Kane could be great for us.
That aside though, theres the practicality of it.
Play want away player who clearly gives zero fudges,
or play young player, highly rated, on a long deal - whom is supposed to be a star for us for years.
You go with the latter, IMO. And going with the former must send some really bricky messages to the bench.
Lamela I like, but predominantly as a squad player, I dont really see him as a first 11 regular. But again, Id be playing him right now ahead of Eriksen without even having to consider it.

Well now we have a bit more creativity all around with Ndombele and hopefully Lo Celso that may well work.Or maybe creating being more of a team effort, than a specialist position, will bring the best out of more of the squad?
Could be great? It totally and undeniably HAS been great, and incidentally in the best period of football I've ever seen Spurs play! Thing is, I'm afraid that was a different Alli, and a different Kane. And with the supply of a different Eriksen, with a team behind them that played as a team where everybody had a role - and played by it.I think he is a top talent, and I think playing him behind Kane could be great for us.

You always has to weigh options against each other, Eriksen at 75% is still better than every other player we have available in his position. Now he's stooped below a level where most alternatives are better, even Alli at 50%, and is still declining by the minute. I suspect that if Lo Celso was fit they would have removed Eriksen's locker and thrown away the key. And that Christian is well aware of that, everything looks like a training session to him now.
As of now, we definately don't. Our attack is so disjointed and uncoordinated at the moment that there's nothing to feed. Eriksen needs clever players in a clever system making clever runs for his clever passes. Alli used to be one of those players.Well the catch for me is - Im far from convinced we need Eriksens position...
I think with Alli storming off today shows the frustrations of players like him and Moura
He’s been out of form, but he always puts in 100 percent
He’s on the bench watching this brick being served up, can’t be easy.
