DeAndre Yedlin

He'll be back in the MLS within 3 seasons.

More of an athlete than a footballer.

Rather than bring the MLS exposure, he showed how bad the quality there really is. As if we didn't know from the wondergoals Keane scores every other week against naive defenders.

Fair comment mate but I am just confused about signing a player who is not then given a chance before being moved on.

Maybe he never showed in training that he was going to be better then what we already have, to be honest i thought when we signed him that it was a shirt selling exercise and the exposure we got in the States by doing so. For the 2 mill we paid and what they are saying we will get for him it was not a bad move for us.

8 years ago I'd agree.
But we are now at a position where you have to be good to get a chance, not just decent with good potential.
He will have been monitored in training and analysed statistically both in training and at Sunderland - as a professional footballer every training session is "a chance".
Moving to Spurs was "a chance" as is moving to Saudi Sportswashing Machine. That will give him a good platform.

Can't help but feel a bit 'meh' about this one. Whilst it's always a shame when a signing doesn't work out, there's been no opportunity to build up any rapport with him as a fan, so his moving on is much less jarring than say Mason or Bentaleb. Good luck to him, he has done nothing wrong by us, but it doesn't really feel that we are losing a player
I am more interested to see what happens with Trippier after the story this week that he was having talks about his future at the club. Unless KWP Is considered ready for the understudy role, we need Trippier to stay. But that's for another thread.

And it is always interesting to read back on the first few pages of a player thread after they move on, to see how our hopes/enthusiasm/expectations have borne out in reality.

What is Poch going to spend it on!?

Makes a lot of sense turning decent players, who can't all play, into one or two higher caliber players. We'll hopefully see upgrading of the squad in the closing stages of the window, turning a few squad players into one or two higher level talents.

We're still £2-3m in the red, so won't have money to spent till more have gone. Our squad size is also still up at 27.

From what I've heard from mackems this lad should be more than good enough in the Championship.

I think the Championship will be his loan for education like man players, ok age is difference but think Kane, think Defoe, Walker to an extent.

With his pace, if he gets a good coach he will develop into a very handing Premier League player

He has the physical attributes to make it as full back. i just think he needs a lot of playing time in our leagues.
He got plenty of defending experience at Sunderland though - so he probably learnt quite a bit last season.
i seem to remember reading somewhere that he didn't impress in training, some players are Ok in actual games, but don't show it in training, i wonder whether Yedlin is one of those players and it limits his chances with some managers.

He came off the bench on Saturday but at right wing, and in the 90th minute so didn't even touch the ball.

To be fair to him, based on his ability, you got him at an absolute steal, i wouldnt have accepted a penny less than £30m in 5 installments.
