Davinson Sanchez

Kingesque.

Watching the game at the weekend it struck me just how much he looks like King in the way he runs and moves.

Not saying he is the same player (who is?!) but if he gets even somewhere near Kings level he will be one hell of a defender.

But yeah, watching him run and turn and generally move was a real de ja vu thing at times...

And like King, he hardly ever gets booked. In fact no bookings so far this season.

And for a young player, that's physical, inexperienced and getting used to a new league (the rough and tumble, pace and power of the EPL) that's pretty impressive!

As per current evidence, VVD was about the only defender that WASN'T available.

And he is yet another player that’s been hugely over rated

VVD is a solid Centre back but a long way form being world class... yet I remember some of teh ex Pool players saying that VVD would make them title winners

Yeah, I fail to see how VVD would somehow prevent Moreno from constantly fudging it up.

My worry with this guy is that he won't stay for very long if he continues to be this beastly, this consistently. He spent one year at Ajax and then came to us - that's exceedingly rare. I wonder if he'll do the same with us when he decides he wants to go to Barca or Madrid.

But I don't really think he can keep this up for the entirety of the season, for better or worse. He's basically spent two and half years playing non-stop football - first in Colombia, then across South America in the Copa Libertadores, then for Ajax in the Eredivisie and across Europe in the EL, and then for us in the Prem and in the CL. He's also consistently travelled back and forth between Colombia and Europe throughout that time to fulfill his duties with the Colombian NT.

That's a very, very long time to spend being routinely excellent across continents while playing nearly every game, more or less. And at just 21, too. So at some stage, he'll *have* to slow down or stop being excellent - otherwise he just isn't human. :p I just hope that, if it happens, it happens at a time when we can easily handle it.

Was on the Barca radar before signing for Ajax to develop his football. Can't see him leaving anytime soon unless he feels he has to and levy charges probably quadruple the money we signed him on.

Alas we will win the CL and March into the new stadium with Sanchez

It will happen and if so for big money.
Until we start winning the champions league regularly. It's the natural order of things in commercially driven football.

If you want loyalty you have to stick with the amateur league.

No doubt it will eventually happen. I would just prefer that it happened a bit later, is all.

Personally, I don't expect massive amounts of loyalty from *any* player - I generally expect about three first-team years for truly excellent players we buy from other clubs, four years for most players in general and five years from academy products.

And, equally important, I also expect us to give *any* player at least two years at the club - if we want them to show us loyalty, I'd like us to show them at least a bit as well. And if they're long-serving players, I'd like them to get a) a proper send-off, and b) a testimonial - that's all.

Other than that, though, I don't expect that much in terms of eternal loyalty, one way or another. It would be brilliant if players stayed longer, but I don't *expect* it. And I think those are reasonable standards to have for a club our size.

I'm only worried Davinson is so good that he won't even need to give us those three years - he left Ajax after a single season, and it is seriously possible that he does the same to us, if he keeps improving at this unbelievable rate.

Agree with that Dubai. Like everything else, loyalty work both ways. We cannot expect/require loyalty from the players and then expect them to cancel their contracts/finding a new club as soon as we don't think they are good enough anymore.
