Davinson Sanchez

I wish we could go back to the 70's, you could let in a goal and moan about it and move on, now everyone is an expert and it has to analysed to nth degree and at least one person must be crucified. This use to be a game to watch and enjoy, it's getting worse than going to work.

If you're not interested in the game itself enough to want to analyze it then fair enough but I do find these discussions interesting. Obviously the most important and impactful opinion will be that of the coaching staff and any analysis given in press conferences will usually be fairly vanilla...

It's just a shame that often the discourse results in petty squabbles as there's always quick accusations of agendas or jumping at the chance to label someone a spacegoat etc which are routine ways to shut a discussion down.

FWIW the goal yesterday was definitely Dier's fault ;)

Is this not why we have looked at CB's and FullBacks with pace.

Udogie is quick, Porro has some pace as well, but VDV fast. It will help prevent teams from counter attacking when you have a handful of players who will get back quick

Yes but there is always a chance we get caught with it. The forwards are running straight on to the ball over the top, defenders have to adjust. It’s a really, really risky way of playing. Klopp struggled for his first two seasons at Liverpool until VVD and Allison came in. We will struggle with it this year no matter how quick our defenders are.

It's not just the defenders but Vicario playing the sweeper keeper that will be important. He did make me nervous, probably a hangover from Lloris rather than him, but he was really good at coming out and clearing the danger.

I'd be interested if I was playing in the game as it might have helped me improve my performance, but as I have no way of changing or influencing what happens it's seems pointless other than to show i know more about the game than most and have never made a mistake in my life.

I enjoy the discussions coz there are a lot of people on here with a great knowledge of the game and I find myself learning things or considering something I’d overlooked. It’s the spacegoating I don’t like especially when it’s thinly veiled confirmation bias.

Sometimes what the opposition does is just something you have to applaud. I remember Dier getting pelters a few years ago at Old Trafford the day Ronaldo got a hat trick. Ronaldo dropped off and rattled one in from 25 - 30 yards. Just an incredible goal. Could Dier have done better? Possibly but he does what he did 100 times and 99 times the ball is in row Z and no one says anything. It was just exceptional from a great player.

I think there were fans interested in the tactical side of things back in the 70s but less of a platform to discuss it. Hope I'm not taking your initial post too literally but if not discussing the performances of players / happenings on the pitch, what else are we here to talk about? "Sanchez's hair looked nice yesterday didn't it, and what a handsome young chap he is, he is also a perfect footballer, like everyone else is on the team that I happen to support"..... Obviously that's an intentionally extreme interpretation but I don't get the calls for mindlessly supporting without being "allowed" to have actual views on things that aren't just blindly positive.

And never say never, you could have a fruitful career as a coach if you get round to doing your badges, it'd be great to have an inside eye at the club - Perhaps we should have a whip round on the board to pay for the course fees!

Opinion only (of course), but I think that's where Ange differs from the Poch/Klopp high line models (both were exposed yesterday btw)

By the FB's coming inside, the midfield is quite congested and there isn't a direct route to our goal (Toby/Jan used to and VVD face a lot of 1:1 strait at them), you have to go wide against us and back in. It makes it a little less risky (opposition is going the longer route, your players get direct route to run back, and it requires someone puts in a decent cross)

Thanks for the offer but coaching is such a thankless job with a high failure rate. My problem is the issue Deano raised, the s capegoating. Virtually every goal scored could have been stopped at sometime in the movement if somebody had done something differently, that's part of the joy of the game, the uncertainty, I dont want a game played by robots, give me human error. Luckily I've managed to hold on to most of my hair and am pleased to see players with all strange hairstyle rather than the prison haircuts that seem in vogue.

I hope we keep big Dav and just finally give him the love he deserves. It'll melt him. He just needs our love. It's that simple. Then he's Ledley all of a sudden! I swear! Love this man! ❤️

They didn’t have tactics in the 70’s, interfered with smoking and drinking.

Yeah and none of us knew what an invert fullback or a false no9 were and were much happier in our ignorance.
If you're not interested in that then turn off commentary, and avoid going into where it is being discussed. Others want to go into the tactical analysis as deeply as they can, no right or wrong in that just each to their own.

I think he will do well under ange. If he decides to stay as backup cb. Hard to get cbs with pace.

That's just inane. Van de Ven has had three training sessions with the team. He can't expect Sanchez to go walkabout and end up on the touchline instead of marking Wissa - he doesn't yet have the experience of being let down by him repeatedly. And Udogie *was* marking the far side Brentford player - look at the shot. He was forced to leave him to try to get to Wissa.

Because Sanchez didn't do *his* job. And as for dropping because Henry was in, Henry was on the touchline - he couldn't shoot, and Vicario had the port covered. The only option he had was passing to Wissa, which was only an option because Sanchez dropped off.
Sanchez is in exactly the position he should be in that situation! He has to defend the front post. Wissa should be picked up by a midfielder.

I always watch on mute, to avoid the crap pundits wheel out to fit their own agendas, it's the page long tactical analysis people put on here to RIP any joy out of the GAME, oh look theres a mistake, it's the mistakes and unexpected that make it enjoyable, I like music i dont need an explanation as to what chord was use and how subtle change of tempo in the chorus was done.

Lol I do that especially when Andy Townshend is on. He is so anti Spurs he can't help sounding nonplussed or even disappointed when we score.

you would never make subtle tempo changes in the chorus, unless you're Biffy Clyro. #jussaying #jusjokin
