Daniel Levy - Chairman

We’ve done nothing but strengthen the squad (and the stadium, and the training ground, and the scouting network) continually since ENIC took over.

Maybe so but we are light in the FB area by looks of it. Ndombele is a good addition but this squad needs some more depth.

Levy spoke about investing in the squad at the AIA signing so time to do it.

I’m not knocking what he’s done and when Levy’s transfer dealings are questioned people roll out the same about the upgrading of infrastructure and that achievement. It’s nothing to do with signing players although it does help our cause.

We can't really comment on the final squad until the window closes.

Presumably Levy expected 3 players to leave (Eriksen Rose Toby) and is now caught on the hop about whether to buy more players.

But I had harboured secret hopes that we would have identifed some bargains around Europe/South America and would swoop with panache in June and get things sorted early... I should have known better.

I do agree that we need 1 or 2 more, but the window doesn’t shut for another week yet. RB is a screaming buy for me, it wouldn’t take much to upgrade there, the scouts need to do some home work surely.

Fingers crossed . We look very short at RB

We're stocked at RB. In addition to KWP, Aurier, Foyth - Sissoko could play there if needed.

I think what we need is Eriksen resolved one way or the other, and possibly one more goal scoring attacking player.

We may be lacking a clear and obvious first choice at RB but we have plenty of options there in the squad (Aurier Dier Foyth KWP Alderweireld)

The lack of rumours surrounding the position would suggest to me it's not a priority position for us this window (whether you or i agree with that or not)

Yes I should have said a first choice RB ours are all pretty average in my opinion

Yep my worry is Poch clearly doesn’t think RB is a priority. I think Sissoko is the only player he could do an adequate job there. I like Foyth but we have exactly the same issue as when Trippier was there, a lack of pace, we’d get torn a new one there by the top teams who all play with pace out wide.

I don’t mind any of our RB options as a back up, but to go in with any of them as first choice is just such a step down in quality from the rest of the first team.

Don't forget Dier and Alderweireld. Both are a lot better there than Foyth and Sissoko have ever been.

I agree RB is a clear and obvious weakness in the team. Having said that, getting rid of Trippier is MASSIVE in my opinion. Don’t won’t to be horrible to the bloke and it’s hard to quantify his mistakes in terms of points he cost us but I could name four or five howlers he made off the top of my head and without having to look back where he cost us a goal. Having someone else at right back should be worth at least 6-7 points. Not gonna be enough to help us catch Emirates Marketing Project and Liverpool but it’s a start.

I make it 8/9 I can think of. He really had a stinker last year.

We may be “stocked” but we also don’t have a clear first choice in the position. Probably the only position in the team where this is the case. For a club that has aspirations to win the league and the CL I don’t think being “stocked” is enough.

Agree re Eriksen needs to be resolved.

Really interesting viewpoint from Spooky (short excerpt below)

https://www.dearmrlevy.com/dml/2019/7/31/curb-your-pessimism

Success is relative to the stature of your club, and along with ambition, the platform to support it and potential to achieve it. So for a club like Spurs success should equate to silverware. It’s a privilege to be able to entertain this ideology in the first place. We’re part of the upper echelons of the lower tier elite. But to be able to flirt with the upper tier is pretty honourable in the first place. It’s taken us a long time to compete but arguably it’s taken Mauricio Pochettino five or so years to create a pulsating, hungry culture that gives us that vital push towards something that was quite unfathomable not too long ago. Playing catch-up during a period of time when the club was building a new stadium isn’t an excuse for the flux we are suffering from (so much suffering). It’s a reality.

Not achieving it (silverware) doesn’t necessarily redefine the clubs statute either. Football is hardly comparable to what it was 10 years ago let alone 20 or 30. It’s not easy and the entire concept of player valuations and transfers has been bastardised beyond recognition. That and the prioritisation of Champions League qualification and the financial clout of that upper tier we are so desperate to be part of makes it all that more messy to navigate through.

It shouldn’t redefine you as a supporter either, the lack of winners medals. Don’t let the amplified and often shallow and contrived agendas of the media imprison you in the echo chamber. Should you really be losing your sh*t over a rival club spending more money than us but spending money on players and positions they don’t really need to be improving? Should you be jealous of a club that spends more than us to only finish below us? Is this about Tottenham and their progression or is it about your ego and that all important save-facing tactic when you’re looking to swagger your avatar into your followers timeline whilst doing a Twitter frenzy?
