Daniel Levy - Chairman

Ideally we would have all our deals done before pre season, and then have the last few days to see if there are any steals around - but only from an opportunist point of view. That must surely be the best way to work?

The logic is simple for me. If we could get in and get done early, I see absolutely no reason why we wouldnt. So for me the way we work MUST be out of necessity.

Is it frustrating? Oh hell yeah!

I agree.

I'd say it's more likely to be necessity than ideology.

I think you're doing Llorente a disservice the guy is good with the ball at his feet as well, the only real weakness I see in his game is his lack of mobility.

I would have preferred a more technical mobile player who can play with Kane. The last three strikers have all been similar. All very predictable.
Swansea feel they have upgraded to Bony.
He might just do a job for us in the short term, which is fair enough. But he really not that dissimilar to Crouch. I would imagine the % of goals he scores with his head are very high. Anecdotally they are the ones I have seen him score for Swansea.

You mean like Alli, Son and Lamela?

I'm left with the feeling I tend to feel after most windows in that the Chairman has done alright but might have done a little more. I think we have bought a fantastic right back which hopefully completely negates the Walker departure and Llorente is a player I like and think he will give us a new dimension, especially in Europe where we might want to throw it in now and then when we are being frustrated and he can bring it down and work others into play as he is technically very tidy on the ball so those two signings are very positive.

Having said that, we have spent a lot of money on Sanchez which is great given his age but wasn't necessarily an area we needed to whack that amount of money on overall unless Wimmer was really kicking up about going which I don't think was really the case. I'm not sure that it would have been a priority for me over an attacking player that offered something a bit different. I just feel that over the last 2-3 windows we have needed some raw pace/guile/trickery that differs from what we have already in the front three, yet we haven't added that type of player so in some respects, I am on a personal level, a bit frustrated.

I would imagine we would be securing Barkley in January for sub £20m which potential and value for money wise is a great deal but next summer we absolutely have to make a signing or two that stands out going into the new stadium imo and I think I would like a wide forward for either side plus Sessegnon for Rose. Martial and Julian Brandt have a year left next summer and along with Thomas Lemar and Christian Pulisic who have 2 years left in 2018, they are the sorts of targets we should definitely be looking at and let the oil rich fight over Griezmann, Bale, Ozil and Sanchez et al.

Id imagine we had a agreed contract agreed subject to Work Clearance after he completed his medical, that the contract would only become invalid if a visa was denied.

I think that @galeforce was talking about the exclusivity clause. I assume that we paid more for this or structured the payments more in PSG's favour to get this.

Don't see why, would imagine the contract was pre-agreed signed by all parties but was subject to a visa application being successful
Id have thought the same as any other contract for a non eu player.

We are applying for the visa and sponsoring it with our lawyers, so nobody is going to do that without a contract in place.

We really should have done Sessegnon now as apparently neither the player nor Fulham were opposed to a move, but their manager was threatening to walk if he was sold. If he has a good season we could easily be talking crazy fees. Lemar will definitely be a crazy fee to one of the mega clubs. We can forget about him.

I fear so as well. I think Lemar would be superb for us but the bun fight from Liverpool/Arsenal means he is firmly in the consciousness of everyone now as a valid departure next summer. Very frustrating but still definitely one we should be looking at along with the others mentioned.

Yep buy him now and loan back. With tv money next season the fees could suddenly be astronomical

One of my busiest days of the year meant not being able to follow the final transfer day until after it ended. Pleasantly surprised to see the Aurier deal go through and very happy to see the arrival of Llorente. Given all the turmoil and bitching within other top clubs in England, we've done very well to improve the team and still make over 10 mil.

Times like this you really appreciate what a great administrator Levy is. The patient build up of the club and its resources has made it possible for Spurs to begin attracting players like never before. It must be getting worrisome to see young talent like Sancho or Barkley looking to move here while the players we did acquire all had options to move to clubs with greater financial resources but chose to move to Spurs.

Quality over quantity would seem to sum up Levy's methods.

You normally end up paying a bit more, if you ask for a bit more. We were obviously worried about the deal being hijacked, what is in it for PSG taking less?

I'm sounding ungrateful. I think we've signed at least 3 fantastic players and potentially more. They've done a terrific job, but I just don't necessarily agree with the "enter the market late in the day" idea.

But look much have we have saved... Llorente was quoted as a £25m+ buy weeks ago, Aurier around £30m. Thus a saving of around £20m, no small change and enabled us to comfortably buy another player.

Sorry mate but he really is, Crouch could not trap a bag of cement where Llorente has a very good first touch and control. There is this myth that Crouch was/is great in the air but that was because of his height not his ability, Llorente is really good in the air ( there are not many better).
