Cycling thread

I love Cav the racer - but I love Cav the team member, and Cav the human being, even more.

They shouldn’t even bother having other nominations for SPOTY in December.

100% this. His interviews have been wonderful, his humility and gratitude to have had the opportunity to race with such a great team. The hugs and celebrations with the team at the end of stages.
There's also been the very moving interviews with people who've seen it all like Christian Prudhomme and Patrick Lefevere, Prudhomme playing the emotional message Cav left when he'd found out he was on the tour and Lefevere describing how the whole Quickstep team were in tears after the first stage win, it's all heady stuff and really just shows how much love and respect there is for Cav the man as much as the racer.

I'm loving this so much, it's my sporting story of the year by a mile, it's why I love sport, it's the power of sport to elevate and inspire, to keep you believing.

Sorry if this is a bit gushing, I've had a bricky year and Cav has just made things a bit brighter, think I may be developing a similar man crush to a certain other poster in here!

As for SPOTY we all know it'll be Raheem Sterling ;)

It won't be tears of joy after today's stage for Cav ..pain and making the time limit most likely.

Cav in with a chance as today’s stage at 18 k left is headed towards a bunch sprint…

Live and usually superb coverage on itv4.

He can become tied first as winner of the most stages on Le Tour with the greatest cyclist of all time, Eddy Merckx.

But just having him compete for a win again is worth witnessing.

That was less than straightforward but Cav showed all his years of experience there to be ahead where it matters...on the line.

4 wins WOW.

So want him to get 1 more. It would be great on the Champs Elysees but should just take it wherever it comes.

yeah Pyrenees now and so the champs elysee has got to be favourite. The next flat stage is a day after the tourmalet stage with two hors category climbs, and the hilly profile looks good for a breakaway.
