Cristian Romero

Where would you rank Romero compared with the other top defenders that we have had over the years?

Think its a bit early to make those comparisons - I dont think you can talk about those things til someone has been at the club for say 3-4 years and you can differentiate between form and class. He has the potential to be right up there in my view given he's only just turned 24 and has all the attributes needed

The tackle at the weekend was excellent and should be allowed. However, do that in a European game and it risks a red given that the studs on his left boot were showing. That shouldn't be the case, but the opponent would be rolling around on the floor and the speed of the challenge could easily end up with him off. If that happens, everyone would be saying that he shouldnt take that risk half way in to the opponent's half

I was critical of him earlier in the season, but his decision making is so much better now, he’s turned the risk factor down a bit and is far more dominant for it.

Agreed. I loved his performance yesterday and many of his recent games. But next week will be a huge challenge for him. Will be very interested to see how he does. If he misses one of those challenges, he’ll be walking because he could do serious damage.

As a centre back, usually your priority should be to ensure the striker doesn’t get past you which means unless you’re certain you’ll get it, just keep yourself between the ball and our goal. This fella ignores that most of the time and, to be fair, most of the time it pays off.

I love him, I think he has potential to be world class but he still has to prove it against better opposition than Leicester B. A great game next week, against the best attack in the world at their stadium, would go a long way towards convincing me.

Son knows how instrumental Romero was for his goal

You can see that he knows he has to inspire things from the back
He is an absolute hunk of burning love of a player and now that CFs know he will take them out there will be a fear factor
Fully expect pool to milk it on Saturday
Yep expect him to get played and ref hoodwinked soon enough.

Maybe too soon to say but if he carries on or, as we can expect, only gets better, he is well on the way to being right up there alongside the incomparable Dave Mackay. For me he's already ahead of Ledley because of his energy, his amazing swashbuckling style and quite stunning timing in the tackle.

Yeah, too early to compare with our best. Already a fantastic player though. How well he'll compare with others will come down to consistency over time and if he can improve further.

Absolutely love that we have him in our team.

Roberto Firmino: Brazilian
Cristian Romero will be targeting him with extra attention
Fabinho: Brazilian
Cristian Romero will keep an eye on him in-between spells of trying to break Firmino's ankles
Alisson: Brazilian
Cristian Romero will be pinching his ass and balls during our corners

Of the last 20 years, he's behind Ledley, Jan and Toby. Probably on a par at the moment with players like Dawson and Naybet. He keeps going as he is though and he'll reach Jan and Toby's level. Not sure he'll reach Ledleys level. The swashbuckling style is great to watch but you need more strings to your bow to be a top defender. Ledley had it all for me, Romero...not yet.
