Cristian Romero

Was just look at videos of him actually. He's a defender who likes, you know, defending

Strong, physical in his approach, closes forwards quickly. Will take our defence up several levels if we can get a partner for him

Sterling will be doing summersaults on approach

If we were City, Pool or United the press would be creaming themselves over this transfer.

Young, Serie A defender of the year (you know how good you need to be one of the better defenders in Italy at his age?), Copa winner, he's the real deal.

The press have bigger things to talk about. Grealish isn't even the top story. Record english purchase outshone by a free transfer.

Yes.
We've got ourselves a defender who, over the course of a season, was judged to have out-performed Chiellini, De Ligt, Bonucci, Koulibaly, De Vrij, Skriniar and any others you'd care to mention from the Italian top flight.
That's mighty fine work.

Didn't know they have stats for this.
– Extremely rapid at shortening the distance from the opponents, he holds the record for Defensive Aggressiveness (95,1%);

I believe this guy can play as DM if needed. He doesn't just tracks the ball, he tracks and matches the opponents stride for stride, to make many of the interceptions as seen in the video.

Wonder why it’s a loan to start with. Maybe another Gio situation with a big loan fee to offset a sell on fee with Juventus. Or to help us balance the books for future signings this summer.

He could become as important to us as VVD was for Liverpool.

Free up funds I imagine, if we can get in two now and not have to deal with Jan prices its a bonus

Isn't more than one transfer in one window banned? He's owned by Juve, and Atalanta have option/obligation to buy, so they buy him from Juve, and can't sell him to us now.

Could be a variety of reasons. Could be a cashflow thing, but then again the clubs could have agreed a different payment shcedule, could be something to do with tax (shifts profits from the sale into future year), who knows....

Good, gives the club more time to see that 'normal' finances are restored before dropping a large amount right now. Also ensures we have more flexibility right now to conduct other large transfers while there are clubs currently in a position where they need to sell or accept lower offers that would not be the case next year.

Welcome to Romero.

Seems to be very much in the Argentinian centre back mould. Tough as nails, loves a tackle, aggressive. But seemingly/hopefully a lot better at those things than most of his compatriots.

Paratici will know a hell of a lot about him, so confident that he'll come good. Only problem is that we need him to come good rather quickly, not much time there to settle, and he'll have to do that in a fairly new lineup, under a new manager with teammates that won't be brimming with confidence after last season.

Tough ask, but hopefully he'll live up to our hopes and expectations.

That would have been my guess even without those comments from Gold.

Would also go some way towards explaining why the transfer dragged out a bit, and we waited for Demiral to be completed. Atalanta wouldn't have wanted to agree to that without getting a similar deal themselves.

Hopefully that leaves some funds for other players incoming. Days will only keep being busy for Paratici and the transfer gang.
