Cristian Romero

I agree mate, but it amounts to the same thing in the end, which is that we have a problem in our hands in terms of selling him for a decent amount.

Personally I'm okay with him staying, though as @thfcsteff pointed out, it's a bit of a doomed endeavour given he's marked his card with PL refs forevermore, and will be unfairly reffed regardless of what he does.

My worry is more - if he stays (big if) how will he react to the probability that he loses the captaincy, fails to get a move at a price we want, and so on. And do we have to sacrifice a genuinely reliable player in Danso, to accommodate him?

No chance we keep him for those reasons, same reason we have added 2 more CBs to our inventory. Hence why I think we take a deal that Levy may of not. Overpay for some, take less for ours for the end game.

Thats what people wanted for years

I wouldn’t be shocked if he ends up going on a loan. He’s not good enough for the elite tier clubs. His wages are too high for the clubs on our level.
28 is an age where we can command a serious fee...as the years tick by that diminishes.

I think foreign clubs (series A, la liga) will view him differently... certainly as 'good enough'

Assume we don’t want to sell him to a rival in the Prem.

Clubs like Bayern, Real Madrid, Barcelona & PSG would only move for Romero late in the window if their main CB targets fall through.

Atletico Madrid and clubs of that stature in Seria A and elsewhere in Europe will wait on a loan where we still pay part of his wages. Honestly wouldn’t even be shocked if he ended up going on to to Turkey after the window closes.

It’s the correct strategy this summer and maybe even next summer. After that we need to find a middle ground between Levy and the Lewis family acting like Emirati.

True. I'm just a bit sentimental about the guy - his abominable disciplinary record and captaincy aside, the idea of having two Dutch internationals as our CBs with two Argentine internationals (him and Senesi) backing them up, just has an appealing symmetry to it, I suppose. :p

Still, between him and Danso, I'd take Danso every day. Man has the heart of a warrior, and not one that bails on his team when the going gets tough.

Nowt as self loathing as a Spurs fan. Blokes won the WC, Two Copa Americas and MOTM in a Europa League Final. People make out he is Callum Davenport.

He will end up at a very decent club, no level of 14 year old playground "well if he was why aint they queuing up" rubbish.

Indeed.
