Coronavirus

I said this to my mrs yesterday and we just feel its irresponsible to have the rona and carry on as if we don’t, imagine we give it to loads of families and their Xmas day is ruined like it was last year

Well said. Nice one mate, good on you, that is being civic-minded.

Would it? Most people don't seem to notice they have it and those who do have mild cold symptoms.

It's not COVID causing the problems, it's everyone's reaction to it.

There is a national health system underfunded and in dire threat of getting flooded. That is partially why what you want cannot happen; because it will clog things to the extent that death rates from other issues soar due to inability to treat people. Plus all those idiots who still pull the no-vax 'freedom-my-choice' ticket because they think Bill Gates actually gives enough of a fudge about them.

I met up with a couple of friends for lunch today. One is a community health nurse and also volunteers on a Sunday at her local vaccination centre. She was telling us that they get anti-vaxx protestors putting up posters outside, and they put razor blades behind so that when security try to pull them down they get cut - they don’t as they are aware and wear gloves but seriously, wtf? I mean have your own views if you must but that is taking things far, far to the extreme.

wtf? So many sick bastards out there.

Don't treat the ones who have refused vaccinations - that's the vast majority of those getting I'll anyway.

Problem solved on both fronts.

Oh, and it's not underfunded. It's just overused.

Re the friend I mentioned earlier, there's a lot of vaccine hesitancy in the area where she works and where she volunteers to administer the vaccine. She was saying they are seeing a lot of people coming in now for their 1st jab, people who were sceptical before but are quite worried now by the new variant.
The challenge will be whether they bother coming back for jab #2.

(I also imagine the vaccine passport concept might be playing a part, in case the requirement to have it is broadened).

I’ve already contacted everyone I have seen (not many) so just really hanging in onto hope it’s not been passed on. I believe I got it from my wife who has not been out apart from a couple of shops last weekend (masked).
I’d prefer to be blamed for messing up plans than pretending all is well. I have absolutely no temperature nor symptoms, tested and did everything I needed to do - I even still have the ping app.

I’d always wondered how people caught this thing and I still have no idea.
All the best mate.

In fairness I agree that there is an army of people who will now demand care over a runny nose; this is an issue. However, there NHS has suffered from under-funding, of that there is no doubt.
I guess one man's underfunding is another man's overuse. But when the country's most unhealthy are the same ones who make the smallest contribution, something's going to give.

Had a brilliant sleep last night and feel miles better today, still tested positive on a lateral flow though
Eldest's PCR came back as positive but the good news is my Mrs and the youngest are still testing negative

How is it possible - hope it stays that way and that this passes in your household quickly and painlessly.

Early signs that gauteng cases may be levelling off. Daily testing has remained flat, but so has positivity levels. Still early days though.

The head of the south africas biggest helath insurer did an interview. Said this is much more mild. That positivity levels were at 26% in sa. In previous waves when positivity had hit 26% there were between 2000-3000 people in hospital. Currently there are 366. These would be private hospitals he was referring to though.

The eldest and I feel almost 100% again now, mental isn’t it, didn’t think I’d be able to work tomorrow but will be all good which is good as it means I get paid

It's a really strange old thing. I was in the original pre-vaccine Wuhan Clan and I had spells of real fever mania, interspersed with the exhaustion. I did some pretty major manual work in the garden at one point during the middle of my illness, when an hour before I didn't have the strength to lift the duvet off me.
